Saw you standing by the road
Bag of clothes slung over your shoulder
Thumb raised to the sky

Said you were running away
Couldn’t stand the way things were
Couldn’t say goodbye

Oh do you remember
When we were kids
Said we’d travel the world
And see the sights

Walked a country mile
Before the folks came and picked you up
Said come back home
Things really aren’t that bad

You climbed in the back
Didn’t say a word
Rode home went into the house
Couldn’t understand how life could be so unfair

Oh the dreams we had
They all but disappeared
Ghosts of the dreams we had
Haunting our minds

Listen friend
To the sound of my voice
There are worse things
Than living at home with the folks

When you’re seven
Where else ya got to go
