Echoes Of Addiction

Everyone speaks of addiction, as if they know the way,
But unless you've walked that road, you can't truly say.
It grips the heart of many, especially those who ache,
And that first sweet taste of freedom, it's the path you take.
Chasing highs like fleeting shadows, they replace your family's grace,
You swear you'll find a way to quit, to reclamation your rightful place.
But cravings ride like tides at night, pulling you away,
The warmth, the numbness - lost in that familiar fray.
You convince yourself you're in control, but it's a cruel disguise,
For addiction hold the reins so tight, with whispered, tempting lies.
When you resolve to break those chains, the withdrawals hit like stone,
A week of hell, a battle fought, in silence, all alone.
Sleepless nights and endless pain, your world becomes a blur,
Each moment stretches endlessly, in a reality that's a slur.
But when that week is finally done, a glimmer starts to shine,
You've faced the storm, you've weathered through, now it's time to realign.
Rebuild the bridges, mend the ties, stay sober, take your stand,
Each day a step, a choice to make, with hope to guide your hand.
For though the path is winding, and the shadows still may roam,
We do recover, one day at a time - finding our way home.
