The Shore Read Count : 38

I'm sitting on a shore.
A tranquil, beautiful line of water,
Gliding in towards me then away.
Holding me with it.

The water whispers to me.
The breeze cools my thoughts.
All around me are pictures of calm.
Blues, greens, nature, peace.

It's more beauty than I can take in.
Contentment surrounds me.
Then, without warning, I realize,
It's also more beauty than I deserve.

I'm falling from the shore.
The ground crumbling below, beneath me.
I can do nothing to stop it.
I don't even try.

I feel so heavy and weak.
My mind a dark fog.
All around me the earth rolls away.
Dark, dim, frigid, loss.

I was right where I needed to be.
Then sudden doubt and pain,
Loosened my hold, so abruptly,
I was gone before I knew what had changed.

I know where the shore is.
I know it remains.
I know the way it looks and sounds.
But right now it feels so far away.
