Many businesses are now making the switch to flexitanks and flexibags to send bulk liquids all over the world. Here are five ways they are saving money on doing so, and still getting the results they want.

What Is A Flexitank?

Flexitanks, otherwise referred to as flexibags,  are a type of 
bulk liquid transportation tank that is a lot different to others on the market. That is because rather than being a large rigid walled tank, they are instead multi-layered bags made of polyurethane.

These tanks can still hold similar amounts to some of the larger options on the markets, with sizes going up to 24 gallons each. That has made them a feasible option for many shipping companies. 

Rather than being filled and then being placed into shipping containers, a flexitank will be placed empty into the container, and then filled up from there. While the filling method is different, they still work in the same way as regular tanks and give you a lot of the same benefits. What you will see though, is that you can make some big savings using them. That includes the following:

1. Save On Cleaning Costs

When using regular tanks, they do need to be cleaned out before they can be stored and then used again. This incurs a lot of extra costs, as you will have to have the tanks shipped empty to another location often, and then cleaned out. That does eat into your profits, and it’s something that often you just can’t avoid.

If you start using flexitanks as your go-to container liquid storage, then you can fully avoid these costs. That is because a flexitank is a one use only item, so you will never have to have them cleaned. Once a tank has been sent out to its location, it is then emptied and recycled, rather than being sent on for cleaning. 2. Less Storage Space Needed

While you will not have to have a flexitank cleaned, you will still have to store them. That is the same as many other tanks on the market right now. If you use other container liquid storage, then these can take up quite a lot of room in storage. That leads to increased costs, as you will have to lease or buy larger warehouses or areas to store all your containers in. 

With a flexibag though, you will see that you can keep costs down when it comes to storage. When you buy these tanks, they come folded flat as you would expect from a bag. As such, the obviously aren’t going to take up as much space as say, an ISO tank.

That’s great news for you, as you can rent much smaller spaces and store the same amount of tanks needed to move all of your bulk liquids. 3. Less Manpower Needed

While storage and cleaning are always concerns, something else you need to think about when it comes to costs is staffing. Depending on the bulk liquid transport option you use, you may need more or less staff to handle them during the filling and emptying processes.

For example, if you are using drums, they all need to be filled up individually, loaded onto pallets, wrapped in plastic to keep them in place, and then placed into the shipping container. If you want to get that done in a timely manner, you will need to get plenty of staff on board to do this process. Of course, this leads to increase costs.

With a flexitank though, you can easily reduce costs as less stall are needed to fill them. Typically, you will need just a couple of people to place the tank in the shipping container and then fill it up. That makes this a very cost-effective container liquid storage option.

4. No Cross Contamination

Something else you need to think about what it comes to bulk liquid transport, is cross contamination. While tanks are cleaned, there is always the risk that your current product is contaminated with whatever was used in the tank before. Of course, that will lead to the shipments in that tank being discarded and losing you profit.

With a flexitank, you can be sure that your product is safe as they are a one use only item. That’s something that many shippers use, especially when it comes to food grade liquids, to keep their products safe.

5. More Space Efficiency

When using traditional tanks, you will never fully be able to fill up the space in that shipping container. For example, if you use drums there is always going to be space in between them no matter how tightly you wrap them together. That leads to dead space in the container, which could be used to ship more product and reduce costs on transport.
