When it comes to bulk liquid transportation, using Flexibags and Flexitanks have become the preferred method for many companies. They offer a lot of flexibility that you can’t get with other tanks, making the process a lot easier. Here’s how to fill and empty a Flexitank, so you can do so efficiently. 

How To Fill A Flexitank Or Flexibag

When you’re getting ready to ship a bulk liquid delivery out, you’ll need to know how to properly use your bulk liquid solutions. Here’s how to prepare and fill your Flexitank, ready for shipping. 

Step one: Firstly, you need to prepare the shipping container that your tank will be going in. As you’d expect, as these container liquid storage options are soft walled, you need to check for any sharp objects. That includes nails sticking up from the walls of the container, as well as any rough spots. Sand down rough areas, and hammer in nails when possible. Duct tape over other areas that cannot be removed or altered before shipping. 

Step two: The shipping container has been prepared, so you can get it ready for the tank now. Use cardboard to line the floor and walls of the container, before you place the tank inside. 

Step three: Now you’re ready to place your Flexitank inside the container. Roll it out empty in the container, and spread it out so it covers the floor. Attach the corners of your container liquid storage to the corners of the shipping container so they’ll stay in place during filling. 

Step four: Next, you can start filling up the tank, ready for your bulk liquid transportation. You’ll need a hose  that attaches to the nozzle on top of the Flexibag, and a pump to move the liquid. Open up the nozzle and attach the hose. 

Now you can start pumping the liquid into the tank. As you do this, ensure that you support the hose so it doesn’t become trapped between the container wall and the tank itself. Once you’re done, remove the hose and reseal the nozzle on the tank. 

Step five: The tank is full and ready to go, so you can close the door on the shipping container and label it appropriately. 

How To Empty A Flexitank Or Flexibag

Once you’ve used these bulk liquid solutions to ship your bulk liquids, the tanks will need to be emptied. Luckily, they are again quite simple to empty back out. Here’s how you do it:

Step one: Open up the shipping container to access the Flexitank inside. Remove the cap from the nozzle, and attach a hose to the tank. 

Step two: Once the hose is attached, you’re ready to start pumping the liquid into a new container. Again, as you do this support the hose to keep it in the right position. 

Step three: As the Flexibag empties, there may be liquid at the far end of the bag that your pump can’t access. Have another staff member use brooms or long handled squeegees to push the liquid up towards the nozzle so it can be fully emptied. 

Step four: Once the tank has been fully emptied, remove the hose. The tank itself will not be used again for bulk liquid transportation, so instead recycle it as directed. 

Step five: Remove all cardboard from the shipping container and recycle it.

When using drums for example, you’ll have to load them onto pallets and then wrap them in shrink wrap. That creates a lot of unnecessary waste.
