As the days and nights go by,
I spend my time thinking why...

It had started and lasted, not to long, not to short,
But, nevertheless, our feelings were strong.

Why did you leave?
Why didn't I stop you?
Couldn't I have gone with you?
Why did we have to say goodbye?
I spend my time thinking why...

Years pass without a call,
And then I see you standing tall,
I stare,
And you look, eyes crystal clear, 
My heart leaps, and I think for a second that you still love me,
Then she hugs you and kisses you and then I realise there was never a "We"
That means we were never meant to be.

I run away, 
Thinking of a way,
To forget you, 
I couldn't, and that wouldn't do, 
I needed love in my life,
And not strife.

Why did I love you?
Was it that difficult to love me too?
Why did you leave,
Leaving me and our baby behind?
I spend my time thinking why...
