Gone before she left

Her head had stepped out the door,
Leaving it ajar for her heart to follow once more,
Long before she left him.

She was distant in the wake,
Enlightened of your mistakes,
Which tore her soul to the dark depths of the ocean,
And anchored her confidence between the stones.

She felt like she was drowning,
Inside of her chest,
The burden to heavy to carry with every breath,
But you left her there gasping,
No life raft to keep her afloat.

She had to find her own sail boat,
That drifted further away from shore,
Away from you.
Her heart fled through that door,
The moment she knew she'd left him.

She left from the inside out,
She stayed so long until there was no doubt,
That love alone was never enough,
You can't build foundation on mistrust,
She was gone before she left him.
