Chapter One: Meeting my family

I stretch my aching muscles as I get out of bed. Today was gonna be a long day. 

"Maud, I don't want to repeat myself" My father began during breakfast. I rolled my eyes. "I won't marry Fred dad" I replied. I gave my mom a pleading look. She wiped her lips with a napkin.
 "But honey, Carl's perfect for her. He's handsome, honest, smart, can cook and clean and he has great taste, can't Maud marry him?" She suggested. This was getting good. Carl's my personal servant, although he's a prince. He's elder brother had sent him to is for some strange reason. I had a crush on Carl, and no one knew it. I looked at Carl who blushed. 
My dad snorted, in the most unkingly fashion, like that was the most ridiculous idea he had ever heard. "Yeah right Yvonne, you know that our kingdom Hilair was betrothed to Starry hills since Maud's birth and not Tarbarie" He replied. Carl's proud shoulders which mom had kindly raised sagged. Poor Carl. "Dad!" I yelled. It was mom's turn to stain someone's pride. She gave me an icy that's-not-princess-like look. I gulped back my next retort. Mom had this way with looks, no words, just looks.
