Wolf Brain

by Alira Cohen

That oh-so-silver smile

Mouths with knives like broken glass edges

Spider legs tossed

All about the room

Throwing, scraping, clambering, clawing

Through walls, through paint

Straight past

The architect’s pride

Oh see

How it howls, its broken beastly head

Flung back

Pack after pack after pack

They come cowering

Courageously

Scorched animals from beneath the earth

These nightmares mean

Exactly what they tell me

I run, splintering bones

But they are always so close behind me.
