Chapter 1:
The world was in darkness and in sin and chaos. The word of God was alive through scriptures as a light in the dark so that all who put their trust in Him would no longer remain in the dark but would have the light of life.
Eve Asina awoke from a deep dream and saw within the moonlight in her dark room, a man dressed in a white robe reaching His feet. Alarmed, she sat up in her bed, the covers falling away.
"Do not be afraid, I am the light of the world. Do not be discouraged for I am with you." the angel spoke, and vanished.
Realising that she was not dreaming, but wide awake, she reached for the light switch and turned it on. Looking around her tiny room, she saw noone and suddenly felt sure that she had just seen an angel or Christ Himself by the words He spoke. Terrified, she bowed her face to the ground.
"Who do you think I am?" A voice whispered as though knowing her thoughts.
Eve looked up again and saw noone. Perplexed and confused that she might only be dreaming, she wondered if God was speaking to her and she immediately began to pray.
"O Lord my God, speak to me what you want me to do and I will obey you faithfully."
Suddenly Eve felt a burning sensation running from her hands up to her shoulders. The voice spoke again, "The Kingdom of God is at hand."

Chapter 2:
"Wake up Eve." a voice said softly, shaking her shoulder gently. Eve suddenly opened her eyes to see her roommate, Faith Nyawade kneeling over her. "You fell asleep on the floor." She remarked looking concerned.
Eve sat up realising she was on the floor. "I heard a voice...." she began to speak when Faith interrupted her.
"We're gonna miss Sunday Mass. Si ujitayarishe."
"What time is it?" Eve asked.
"9:15am." Faith replied getting up off the floor and helping Eve up.
"I heard a voice Faith, I saw a man in my room at night, I thought it was God." Faith was not only Eves roommate but also her classmate, close friend and confidante.
"Like Jesus?" Faith mocked.
"Yes!" Eve stammered.
"Sweetie, you must have been dreaming..."
"No, for real," Eve interrupted, "why would I remember this so clearly if I was only dreaming. He said, Do not be afraid, He is the light of the world. Do not be discouraged for He is with me and vanished!!" Eve was only describing what she thought she saw....
"Sweetheart, that's a verse in the bible, Isaiah 41:10, "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." Faith stated pointing to the bible on the floor. "Maybe you fell asleep reading your bible."
Eve acknowledged the bible on the floor and agreed. "Maybe I did."
"Maybe you did sweetie... now hurry up and get ready or we're gonna miss mass."

Chapter 3:
"I can't believe you're not ready Eve! " Faith shouted from Eves open doorway. Eve, who was just sitting on her bed staring nervously at her tiny TV, whispered something. Faith came closer to Eve. "What did you say? Eve are you okay?"
"I have something to tell you, " Eve stammered. " I feel like God knows everything and Im afraid im not a good person. Im afraid of being punished by Him if I dont confess that I have even been with your boyfriend behind your back."
"What? I don't understand... What do you mean Eve? " Faith asked seeming concerned.
"James and I kissed once, and I feel very convicted...."
"Eve, James is not my boyfriend anymore... why are you telling me this now? You're worrying me."
"I just feel very anxious, i feel like my life is being judged for all the things I've been doing wrong.... so I just have to tell you..."
"Judged by who?" Faith interrupted.
"God..."
"Eve, give me a minute, I'll be right back." Faith left Eves room, closing the door behind her. She returned a few minutes later with Gladys, their next door neighbour who usually drove them to church on Sundays.
"Eve, tell Gladys what you just told me."
Eve just continued to sit quietly on her bed staring blankly at the television.
"Okay lets take her." Gladys said to Faith.
"Eve, come with us." Faith said to Eve helping her to get up and put on a sweater. Perplexed Eve also put on her shoes assuming they were going to church where perhaps a pastor could shed light on Eves visions or anxieties.
Gladys drove Eve and Faith down the highway and into Westlands. Eve who had been quiet the whole way recognised the familiar buildings because her mums house was in the same neighbourhood. Maybe they were taking her home. Gladys turned left onto 1st Parklands avenue and turned into the parking lot of Avenue Hospital.

Chapter 4:
At around 2pm, after 2 hours of waiting in the hospital waiting room whilst Faith spoke to the nurse and doctor, Eve began to fall asleep in her chair. The strong voice of the doctor calling her name woke her but she was still very tired.
"Hi Eve, Im Dr. David Ndetei. Can you please come with me to my office."
Eve looked around for Faith and Gladys as she stood to follow the doctor. "Your friends are gone. I understand that your mother is out of town. But don't worry, we will contact her and let her know that you're here."
He led Eve down the corridor to an office past the admission desk. "Please have a seat, a nurse will take your vital signs."
"I'm sorry doctor, im not very sure why im here, am I sick?" She asked him refusing to take a seat.
"Please take a seat and we will see if we can answer that question. " Eve reluctantly sat in the chair across from the psychiatrist.
"Have you been seeing or hearing things that others cannot see or hear?"
Eve, who had never seen a psychiatrist before was not sure if she should be honest about the events that had led up to their meeting. " Im very tired doctor, I had a rough and long night and I just want to go home."
"You'll be able to go home as soon as your mum comes to get you. Can you write her phone number down for me so I can call her?" Eve wrote her mothers number down on the doctors notepad.
"Im also going to run a few tests just to make sure that you're okay. Ill need a blood and urine sample."
Eve complied with the nurse who came to take her blood pressure, temperature, collect her urine and draw her blood. The nurse handed Eve a green coloured hospital gown and asked her to change out of her clothes but Eve refused demanding to speak to her mother to tell her what was happening.
The doctor returned to the office some minutes after the nurse informed him that Eve had refused to change into her gown.
"Eve, I have spoken with your mother and she will be here first thing tomorrow morning. We all agreed that you should spend one night here so we can observe you... just for one night, okay?"
"Why do I need to spend the night here?" Eve asked.
"Well, because of the things you've been saying you heard and saw. We're just going to make sure its nothing to worry about. "
Still feeling anxious and extremely exhausted, Eve agreed to spend the rest of the day in the hospital.
She changed into the green gown ate some food and took a pill that the doctor said would calm her nerves down. Just two minutes after Eve had been shown to her bed, she passed out from fatigue and slept until the next morning.

Chapter 5:
At 5am, Monday morning, a nurse woke Eve to shower, take breakfast and more medications that made her soo drowsy she stayed in bed.
At 10am Dr Ndetei came to Eves bedside while doing his morning rounds. "How are you doing this morning Eve?"
"Im okay."
"Are any voices or hallucinations bothering you today?" Dr Ndetei asked rather seriously.
"Not really....." Eve replied.
"We got your lab reports back and everything is normal, and you will be able to go home with your mum today. But you will need to see an outpatient psychiatrist to follow up on your care. Ill prescribe some medication that you will need to take for a month or until your psychiatrist tells you to stop. And make sure you call us if you start to see strange things or hear those voices again. "
Eve felt very relieved that she was going to be able to see her mother and leave the hospital that day.
At 11:30am, Eves mother Betty Asina walked into the ward. Heartbroken to see Eve in a hospital gown, she began to cry. "Oh my baby, what happened?" She cried as she embraced Eve in her bed.
"Im okay mum, I think Faith and Gladys plotted against me to have me hospitalized...."
"Faith and Gladys told me you were having hallucinations and they were very worried about you so they brought you here...."
"No mum..."
"Hush my baby, its all over now, im going to take you home... and everything's going to be okay. "
With the help of her mother, Eve changed back into her own clothes and was discharged from the psych ward with a diagnosis of early schizophrenia. She was scheduled for a follow up appointment within a week of her discharge date.

Chapter 6:
At 9pm that night, Eve sat in her large room at her mothers house reading the prescription that Dr Ndetei had written for her.
Divalproex Sodium 500 mg Extended Release Tablet
x 3 tab po
q bedtime
OLANZapine 10 mg Oral Tablet
x 1 tab po
daily scheduled at default 0900
As Eve reflected for a moment as to why her roommates deemed it necessary to get her admitted to a psychiatric hospital just because she had confessed to kissing James, Faiths ex-boyfriend, and for feeling like her conscience was being judged by God for that and many more things... Was she suddenly crazy? Did she really see an angel or Christ or was it all a dream? Did God really already know everything? And what could He want with Eve. What would everyone think of what she was thinking? She understood that her mother and friends and even the doctors would assume that she was insane for claiming such things, unless they saw what she had seen and heard what she had heard. Eve realised that she couldn't confide how she was felt to anyone anymore. But, if all these things were in Gods will, then so it would be.
Eve thought about all these things and decided to go to sleep without taking any medication.
