They lied.

Its not the butterfly effect, where a butterflys flap of its wings can cause a hurricane. Its the ladybug effect, where a simple flutter of its wings can cause an unlikely romance between a nerdy geek and the school's delinquent.

It all started with me.

I was around 16 at the time, driving in my Mom's car to my new work, a helper at the library. I love reading, so I was so darn excited to work there. The library was through a long, about 25 minute drive through the forest by my house, but I didn't mind. A song about love was blasting on the music, I believe Heart Attack by someone to be specific.

Then it happened.

A tiny, cute little ladybug flew in through my window, landing on the window inside right in front of me. I don't hate bugs like most girls do, I actually have a soft spot for ladybugs. They're my favorite bug, so I smiled at it.

And it flapped its wings.

I was distracted by the ladybug, so I didn't see the other car that was lingering into my lane slightly, a teenager whos head was turned to the passanger seat.

And we collided.

It wasn't a full head on head collision, it was more like 1/8 of our fronts hit eachother, sending both of us spiraling. I, naturally, screamed, like any person would in that situation. The door next to the passenger seat slammed into a tree, crushing in towards me. Glass exploded, the ound of crushing metal filled the air, my right foot was filled with pain, and I felt like I was going to puke.

I felt worried, for me, for the guy who drove into me, and if my foot was broken.

I tried to lift it, but it gave intese pain, which cause me to cry out and put my foot back down. I was sitting there for what felt like minutes, but it was truly only about half of a minute before my door was opened.

And there, standing above me, was the school delinquent.

He was tall, built, basically every ladie's dream for a perfect body. I honestly didn't care if a guy was hot, I couldn't really tell either. I'm an anime fan, not a normal girl. But I do have a thing for bad guys.

Like Xavier. I can't help it, I just find them attractive. I know, its weird that an honor roll student has a crush on the school delinquent, but I do.

He had thick black hair and piercing blue eyes, a scar on his face. He was wearing his usual outfit, jeans with a grey shirt.

"Xavier?" I asked. "Thats a surprise."

We didn't talk at all, since I was in most advanced classes and he often skipped school. "Jamie?" He asked.

"Yeah, thats my name Sherlock." I said, rolling my eyes.

It was probably a bad idea to mouth off the guy who went to jail twice, but I was mad at the moment. I mean, I just had a car crash a day after I got my licenses, so that probably meant no more driving for awhile.

I expected him to hit me or something like that, but instead, he simply chuckled and kneeled down. "Are you hurt at all?"

I blinked at his question. The bad guy being nice? You just don't see that in real life any more, only anime.

"My foot, its rather its sprained or its broken." I said, looking down at my right foot. "I can't walk on it."

Xavier didn't object or complain, or didn't even say anything, he simply picked me up like a newly wedded couple.

I felt like I died inside.

Xavier carried me outside, over to his very little damaged car with a little girl standing next to it. She was clearly Xaviers brother, she had his same black hair and piercing blue eyes like his, only her hair was in pigtails and she was in a pink skirt and a red shirt covered in hearts.

Her eyes widened when she saw me, gasping. "Are you ok?" She asked me.

"I'm fine." I said. "Its just my foot."

"It ok Lily, did you call the police?" Xavier asked his younger sister.

She nodded eagerly. "Yes, they said it may take a little bit to find us, and to stay where we are." She said, a little yawn escaping a the end.

Xavier set me down against a tree trunk, him plopping down next to him and his sister sitting on his lap.

She yawned again. "I'm sorry miss, its just that we were on our way to my nap." She said, rubbing her eyes.

"I'm Amy, an how about I tell you a story? You can sleep on my lap until the police arrive." I offered.

"Are you sure I can?" She asked.

"You can lay across our laps if you want." Xavier offered.

She grinned. "Yay!" She said, wasting no time as she layed across our laps.

"So, once upon a time there was a Princess." I said. "She wasn't like people expected, she wasn't as beautiful as everyone thought she should be. They locked her away in the tower because of that."

"Thats just mean." Lily said.

"The Princess thought that too, so she used her epic Ninja skills to escape and run away." I said.

"What happened next? Did she ever find true love?" Lily asked.

"Hmmmm..." I said, I told that story to my little cousin, and he usually fell asleep at that part.

"Then an epic, handsome dragon showed up." Xavier suddenly said. "He offered the girl help and said that he found her personality beautiful. They flew away together and had a happily ever after."

"Yay!" Lily giggled, and after a few minutes, she was lightly snoring.

I fiddled with my fingers, aware of the awkward levels slowly rising. What would I say to the guy of my dreams? Like, 'hey I've liked your for a few years now can we make out while your sister is sleeping on our laps?'

"So....." He mumbled.

"So..." I said.

It was like that for a minute, silence once again filling our conversation. I looked over at him, to find him looking at me. He quickly whipped his head away, a light blush on his cheeks.

What?

"Can we go out?" He suddenly blurted out.

"W-What?" I stuttered, my face definitely bright red.

I was so surprised, I flt like I was floating on clouds and cotton candy. He wants to go out with me, the ugly nerd girl?

"I-I've liked you ever since 9th grade, when you had accidentally eaten a flower trying to smell it during track. I know you probably don't like me back but I had-"

And I kissed him.

It felt magical, like someone put a spell on me or something. He was frozen for a moment, before finally kissing me back. We soon pulled apart, me smiling at him and him smiling back, while the same ladybug that caused the incident flew between our faces and flew off into the sun.

And thats the ladybug effect.
