Chapter Eight The drive back to camp was mostly quiet. Mac sat shot gun and chatted quietly with Thibaut. Sam sat between Alex and I. She didn't say much, but I noticed her and Thibaut making eye contact through the rear view mirror. Sam would smile a little every time their eyes locked. I think she really liked him, maybe that's why Danny was upset. However, Danny has never been jealous before. I'm not sure exactly what was going in with him but he seemed on edge, the way he would get when he needed a fix. Thibaut dropped us off at camp and drove off after talking with Sam a bit through his driver's side window. She came skipping back to camp looking like a young girl with her first crush when we heard the slam of the RV door. Danny walked out with his backpack not even looking at Sam and just left. Sam looked torn as to whether or not to go after him, but decided against it. Danny disappeared randomly but he always came back. He just needed time to get over whatever he was dealing with. We respected that so we let him go. That night at campfire things were different. Something was missing and it wasn't just Danny's presence. Kevin didn't pull out his guitar after we ate. Evol and Sam sat next to each other holding hands. Alex and I sat sipping on some wine we picked up at the corner liquor store. Mac sat with his whisky in his hand. I don't think he even took a drink. He stared up into the dark sky as if he was searching for something. We all looked at him in hopes that he would have the answers or even just to tell us what to do next. We sat there in silence, listening to the crackling of the fire, and sounds of laughter coming from the campsite next to us. It felt like an eternity until Mac spoke up. His voice was shaky and his eyes were sad. “I was so young, nobody should see things like that, especially a young kid,” he said almost too quiet to be heard. Mac continued to share with us what happened that night that changed him forever. You see, the thing you have to know about Mac is when he was a kid, he lost his dad in a car accident. He was left to help take care of his mother, things were difficult for the both of them. She was never the same after he died, in reality, neither was Mac. Mac had a good friend, Johnny, that was a year older than him that he looked up to. They stayed best friends through grade school and when Johnny graduated he took off to join the Marines. Mac was devastated as he felt completely alone. He decided then that when he finished high school he was going to join the Marines as well, and that is exactly what he did. Mac thought it was fate when he was stationed in Beirut, exactly where Johnny was. What were the odds of that, he always felt that it was his father looking out for him. Either way Mac was grateful to be reunited with his friend. While they were out there the bond between Johnny and Mac grew even stronger. They had plans to travel the world together. It was a Sunday morning in 1983, Mac had left the barracks early that day like he did every morning to go for a run. Mac liked to get a head start on his exercises so he could be alone to clear his mind. This morning was like many other mornings. There were a few people out doing things here and there and Mac just ran around outside the barracks. It wasn't long before he noticed a strange vehicle enter the gate and circle around, then unexpectedly, at full speed the van drove through the fence that separated the barracks from the main roadway. It all happened so fast. As the van drove through the fence and hit the barracks there was a huge explosion. Mac was lifted and thrown through the air and hit the ground with such force that he had been knocked out. He woke to chaos, his ears were ringing and it was dark and and a thick smoke filled the air. He tried to get up to assess the situation and he stumbled and fell back down. He then turned around and that's when he saw that the USMC barracks had collapsed. Everyone had still been asleep, including Johnny. He sat there motionless and helpless watching it all burn. Over 200 Marines had died that day. Mac never got over losing Johnny. He was all he had after his dad died. He lost touch with his mother after he graduated and left for boot camp and he was all alone. “There is just something about Thibaut that reminds me of Johnny.” Mac finished his story and then took a swallow from his drink and decided to turn in. We all sat in silence feeling heartbroken over what we just heard. We stared at the fire until the flames dwindled down to nothing then we decided to call it a night. It was a strange day and I had hoped tomorrow things would go back to normal. I woke up early the next morning with Alex by my side quietly staring at the ceiling, the rest of the RV was dark. Alex said they took off to the beach about an hour before. She said she wanted to stay with me while I slept. I loved that about her. I snuggled up next to her and began kissing her on the neck, she turned her head to face me and started kissing me back. She grabbed me and pulled me on top of her and I tore off my shirt. Alex put her hands on my breasts and I leaned forward as she put her mouth on my nipple and bit down. I bent down to kiss her then I slowly made my way down and took off her shorts. I can feel that she was wet as I put my mouth between her legs to taste her. She grabbed my hair as she started to shake and moan, it didn't take long for her to reach that point. She pushed me off of her and down on to the bed as she put her fingers inside me then took those same fingers and put them in her mouth, she knew I liked that. Then she kissed me softly as she made me come with her fingers as I screamed out in pleasure. She fell down beside me and we layed there in each other's arms for quite a while. Alex got up to make us both coffee when Sam came in. She said she was going to change and go to breakfast with Thibaut. The guys were still at the beach when she headed up. Alex and I both watched as Sam undressed. She had only been wearing a bikini, so it wasn't long before she stood before us naked. It didn't matter how many times we saw her naked, every time felt like the first time. I watched Alex as she stared at Sam's naked body. I was excited by the hunger she had for Sam. It seemed like it had been so long since I had been able to watch them together. Sam had her back to us as she bent down to put on her panties and Alex couldn't resist, she walked up behind Sam and grabbed her by the hips and pulled Sam's ass into her own hips. Sam at first was hesitant, but when she turned back to see Alex's face she couldn't resist. Alex had Sam bent over as she knelt down and put her face between Sam's spread legs. Alex began licking her wet spot and Sam started to moan in pleasure. I went over in front of Sam and started kissing her perfect pouty lips then moved down to her full breasts and started licking her nipples. Eventually I met up with Alex between Sam's legs and we kissed, then she pulled back giving me a chance to taste Sam's sweetness. Together we had Sam screaming out in pleasure. Her body was trembling all over when Alex and I stood up to sandwich Sam between us. We all held each other close until we heard a knock at the door that startled us all. Thibaut had arrived to pick up Sam and Alex threw on a T shirt and shorts real quick and went to the door to tell him that Sam would be out in a minute. Moments later, dressed in a yellow sundress, Sam was gone. Alex and I sat quietly and finished our coffee. That was the first time I didn't just watch Alex with Sam. It was such a beautiful experience for both of us. Soon after we got dressed and made sandwiches for everyone and headed down to the beach. Mac was sitting in a little beach chair while Kevin and Evol played volleyball with a group of strangers. It was a warm day and the sun was shining down and I decided to lay in my chair and write in my journal. Mac and Alex shared a drink and chatted a bit about the changes that were happening in the group. At first Mac just chalked it up to the presence of Thibaut, but then it started to hit him once Sam said she was headed out. Danny left, and now Sam, we all felt a bit disconnected. Alex had assured Mac that Danny was fine and just needed some space. She was right about that. This was so typical of Danny, it was his M.O. As for Sam though, none of us were quite sure what was going on there, but I trusted that everything was ok and Alex said the same to Mac.
