As she read to him, he didn't watch. He simply listened. Her words danced through his imagination as she voiced a Charles Dickens classic. Lex was afraid of looking up because even though she excited him and he couldn't breath without her. He was afraid for her. Her eyes haunted him, they almost stalked him. Lex was unpredictable and stronger than she could ever be. She didn't trust him. And Lex understood why. He let her read to him and sing to him and pick out the film and take the lead in everything they did because he didn't want to over power her. He needed to show he could be gentle, kind and calm. Lex eventually looked up and she looked away from the page to meet his eyes. She frowned, scrunching her nose. He smiled, finding it cute. She sighed and continued. She was frustrated that he wouldn't be who he truly was around her but she wasn't about to give her whole self to him either. She didn't know Lex before he became Alpha and nor did she want to. She kept her distance for a reason. She didn't want to be his mate. She couldn't stand his temper, she couldn't stand the confusion in his eyes and she didn't want to be with someone who couldn't make up his mind. But he knew it was her he wanted. It wasn't his feelings for her that confused him. He lent across the bed towards her and she slowly put the book down. As she looked at him she opened her mouth to speak but didn't, instead throwing the book on the bed and walking away. Lex never chased her.
