Soft and gentle
Under the stars
And pale moonlight
Above the gleaming
City lights
Soft and gentle
As he was somber
Closing his eyes
While his fingers played
Stroking the keys
To a sweet melody
Only for Anna
As she sat down beside him
In her silk night gown
To listen and wonder
To the sound of his heart
As she rested her head
At the curve of his shoulder
Breathing in deep
At the touch of his skin
And closed her eyes
To listen and feel
The beat of his heart
While he said not a word
But kept her close
With a sad melody
They both understood
