As you smoked a cigarette
Lips cracked and black
From years of smoke creeping
Through them
I watched you
I listened to you
The words that filled
My hungry ears
Sent chills down my spine
How do you do that?
Undress your words
The bare skin of each letter
Soft and warm
Enjoying the wind
How do you do it?
You’ve stripped your
Terms of all their honesty
And make them so easy
To believe
Tell me,
How do you do that?
I want to know
I want to understand
How you can lie to me
And never lose grip
Of the upper hand
