HIDING MY SCARS
My scars are hidden
Beneath flesh and bone.
I've kept them secret
Since I've been home.
The mental battle,
The war within.
I still keep them hidden,
Even from friends.
No one knows
The hell I've seen.
No one knows
My hands aren't clean.
No one thinks
I could take a life.
No one can fathom
That anguish and strife.
There are days
It's all in the past.
And other days
The nightmare lasts.
Visions and memories
Blurred together.
I'm holding on,
Will it last forever?
And if these visions
I can't be ridden,
I'll keep them buried
With the scars I've hidden.
