Back When You Were Young

Days are rough and they are very long  you barely make enough to keep the family fed no one says hello anymore or chit-chat with the neighbors before they go to bed

Then you begin to think of old times of when you felt happy and you could do no wrong back and when everybody sang the same old songs

To a time when you felt safe and you felt that you really belonged back when you were young

In the past the good old days they would say is where you wanted to stay

With friends and family playing in the sun back when you were fancy free and having fun

You did not have to worry about locking your door when you went to work or play because you had neighbor that wewould watch your back night or day

People do tend to daydream or listen to old songs when times get hard and everything goes wrong

A time when life seemed easier and you had a lot more fun you laughed and played all day outside where you climbed trees in the sun

Today just doesn’t seem the same to you people today are always moving and think of only money power and fame

They tend to stay inside playing video games and have nothing else to say they're just too afraid to go out even on a sunny day

You shake your head and then you begin to cry if we don’t change our ways you believe that we all are going to die

So, you begin to think of the past like a  qslice apple pie that mom made but didn't last

To a time when you felt happy and you could do no wrong back and everybody sang the same old songs

When your friends and family made you feel that you belonged back when you were young

In the good old days they would say is where you wanted to stay

With friends and family playing in the sun back when you were Fancy free and having fun

These memories you cherish they make you smile they make you laugh and sometimes they makes you cry you thank the Lord for letting you keep all your memories until you die

Those wonderful hot summer days that you searched for bottles to turn in for a dime playing with friends that are now long dead for you were the best of times

You tell stories to your kid’s grandkids about when you could still buy candy for a dime they laugh at you and said Grandpa that's stealing and that's a crime

You then smile and begin to cry because you just remembered laying in field with your Grandpa for hours just looking up into the sky

You miss your grandpa and your friends who who are not here today  you close your eyes and wish you could go back in time that brought joy to your eyes everyday

To a time when you felt happy and you could do no wrong back and everybody sang the same old songs

When your friends and family made you feel that you belonged back when you were young

You then wake up to reality and know that those times are no more people don’t want tranquility

They want to hustle and bustle and get done fast they just don't care about the past

People just don’t realize what they are missing by moving so fast slow down then remember the nice summer days running barefoot in the fields and playing in the hay those beautiful days in the past

There was always enough watermelon for everyone and all the corn on the cob you can eat going down to swim in the river backyard barbecues going to the game with Grandpa with shoes on your feet

These times were the ones that you really miss today times when you don’t have a care in the world and you just go out and play

To a time when you felt happy and you could do no wrong back and everybody sang the same old songs

When your friends and family made you feel that you belonged back when you were young

But you can't live in the past because if you do you will be sad and you won't last

You have to be flexable and try to learn new things that will help you grow to become a king

But on days when the grandkids on your lap the stack one two three and your  singing old songs is when you think back

To a time when you felt happy and you could do no wrong back and everybody sang the same old songs

When your friends and family made you feel that you belonged back when you were young
