I've always worked harder than any other man longer hours every day till nobody other than me could standIn the end after all those years what did it get me two heart attacks no teeth and two eyes that can barely seeI’m an old man but I can still out work thee any day or night I will show you who I am to beI have been the best but now they think I'm old and just a piece of trash to the man who has to pay all the cashHe can buy a machine that will worked harder than any 10 men with pick and iron canSince the man is all about the money and he who can do it the best I challenged the man and his machine to a testIf I am to save all my friends in town and all around that would be fired I got to beat this machine into the groundMu friends can be hired back twice the fee I’m an old man but I can still out work theeThat vicious cold hunk of steel that entered this town Has no heart no feeling and needs to be brought downSo I got my heaviest hammer that no other man can lift and went to see the man walked over to him and he was dressed in a suit but he offered me his handI'm an old man but I can still out work thee I won't give that machine a chance to gain on meI beat it down and eat my cake I'm a tiger and I'm faster quicker meaner smarter than any machine that man can makeWhen the race is over take a look at that piece of junk You will only read about it in a book or magazine as you lay in your bunkI'm an old man but I can still out work thee I can hit harder and strike faster than any machine made by man wait and seeNow here I am atop a piece of granite older than sin I am still the strongest man that ever lived too bad I don't have no kinThe whistle blew and my hammer started hitting the steel Faster and faster I slammed my hammer down to get a better feelI'm an old man but I can still out work thee the machine began to get a lead But I went to the two arm swing to get a better readBefore you know it I was back ahead hitting my hammer as hard as I ever had before I was sending that machine back to bedMy hammer sent chunks of rock into the air I’m an old man but I can still out work thee and that machine will not be sparedNever again did I even looked back to see if the machine was gaining on me I was ahead by over hundred feet for all to seeFor when the bell was rung I was sweaty and wet I beat the man and his machine and won his betI'm an old man but I can still out work thee I'm the best the strongest the fastest man that ever will beI beat a machine that everyone said could not be done well I proved them all wrong and I wonI never quit I give it all I got till I can't stand my name is John Henry and I am the man
