So often I hear people talk
about how 'real' they are.
Pretending to be open and honest.
"What you see is what you get",
you'll hear them say
I have said it myself
And in the past
I would even argue
Why, because what is the opposite?
Am I living a lie?
It's true.
It's also not easy to admit.
I have my masks in place
I keep the happy face forward
The guy that is never bothered
With attitude or complaint.
That's me.
I'm like a duck in the water
On the surface I'm calm
Serene and floating peacefully
While under the water
I'm paddling like hell
Well, in order for me to grow
And be the person I desire to be
I have to admit it
I have trouble letting people see
Inside of me
In those deep places
Where the smiles are dried up
And the laughter fled
In those places
Where I've learned shame...
It's just kinda hard to let others see
That part of me
The vulnerable insides parts
Where it is one thing
Whispering it quietly in prayer
Letting the light into the dark
But letting other people...
For now I can honestly say
And let it be a start
What you see
Is Not what you get

Yea, what you feel about a person's soul, what they want from you rather it's sick or for good mesasure, if you stay with that person or go along with the date to get to know them in all, I take as be careful what you take a chance on a person you don't even know, it might just be the last thing you ever see. With someone that's fine. Alone, just don't. It's just too risky, for someone you barely even know yet.
