"What do you want me to say?" She asked, lowering the sword to her side and gazing at his mangled body propped up against the marble wall. "That you're sorry" he choked out. "I can. But I wont mean it. I dont regret this." She shrugged. "But it's your deathbed. If you want to die a forgiving man, I can lie and say I'm sorry."
"Dont you love me?" He asked, searching her face for answers. "Till death do us part" she replied, meeting his eyes for the first time. He coughed, blood dripping from the side of his mouth. "Hah. But death is coming to me soon." He said, his eyes glinting. "Exactly." She replied, maintaining eye contact as the spark of life slow slid from his eyes.
"Is this just a game to you?" He whispered, tears streaming across his cheeks. She was silent for a moment "Yes." He nodded, satisfied he finally knew the truth. He had it coming after all.
Blood pooled across the marble floor and trickled through the cracks like rivers. She sheathed her sword, still dripping crimson, and looked away from the body, from the still pale face of her lover. His final expression twisted his features- not fear but sorrow. "I thought you loved him" her accomplice said, walking up behind them. "I did." She answered, her voice made detached and cold with expert control. Still, she could not conceal the pain laced in her eyes.
