I can think back to my younger days,

Living life when the sun couldn't shine brighter.

Even in the worst times, I would go out to play,

Feeling the sorrow drift as I floated higher

I can still feel the breeze across my face

And the suffocating heat that bothered me none

I can still think back to the memories I can't erase

Everything and everyone was okay, but she who called me “her son.”

How could I mend her broken heart?

How could I put her world together again?

How could I keep her warm at night?

How could I be her friend?

What could make a man so foolish?

Why were they so cruel?

I can still see her heartbreak

But she never ever talked about the sorrow

I never knew what to do so I went out to skate

Hoping she knew I needed time to grow
