As I write this article,
Tears are almost streaming,
As I remember the women of Africa,
The troubles that they face to ensure we are secured safely,
But our African women are not treated with respect,
Even a cow gets better care than our African women.

I am remembering our mothers,
They rise early to prepare for the family,
Yet this heroines only receive contempt for their actions,
Taken advantage of and abused by male chauvanists in the society,
Never appreciated for the great things they do.

A mother is a protector and a nurturer,
A symbol of love and strength,
She holds the family together,
But our society has reduced their position to the kitchen.

In a small village,a woman has lost her husband,
But the society is arguing amongst themselves,
Who will inherit her?
I am heartbroken thinking that she has no option but to accept,
Because our culture gives our women no voice at all,
Does this widow deserve this?
Maybe you know the answer to that.

I cry for my African sisters,
While the world values and fights for the girlchild,
We are busy fighting our own girlchild,
Somewhere in Africa a young girl has been betrothed to an old man,
Her education cut short because of greed,
For a few head of cattle,
A bright future has been dimmed.

Still somewhere in this continent,
A young girl is writhing in pain,
She has undergone mutilation,
A barbaric act that steals our young girls dignity,
A cultural practise demeaning our girls,
Until when will we treat our valuable treasures with such disgust.

Africa,my motherland,
Until when will our women have to go through this,
The world is changing,
A new wave of change sweeps across the globe,
And I believe that it is time our women are treated well,
As I put my pen down,I only have this to say,
A wise chief once said this,
A home without daughters,is like a river without a source.
And I believe we have to protect our sources very well.
Think about our African women.
