COLOUR OF MY SKIN Read Count : 83

I saw one of the most disturbing thing on the internet this week,
A man was killed not because of a crime but because of his skin colour,
Yes,still in the 21st Century racism still prevails,
I am not here to condemn anyone,
My point of view is what I want to air.

The deepest place in hell is reserved for those who maintain neutrality in times of crisis,
Those are the words of Dante from his epic work INFERNO,
I want to have a say on this not because everyone is talking about it,
But rather because I am a person of colour too.

First of all, black is my favourite colour,
Its a beautiful colour and so are its people,
But how am I to react if someone is killed because of the skin colour,
Is this the curse of Noah to Ham because of seeing his father's nakedness?
It seems Martin Luther's dream still remains to be a dream.

Why should someone judge me because of my skin colour,
Why should someone care if I am black, white, yellow or even colourless,
What matters is what is inside of me,
I might me black but my blood can save a dying white man,
An Asian can donate his organ to a Latin,
Why then am I judged for being different.

We are different and shouldn't diversity unify us instead of dividing us,
We are one people under these different colours,
The Bible says that all are created in the image of God,
And the last time I checked God was still one,
Or do we have a black God and a white God and I did not know.

My appeal to the world,
If you should judge me,
Judge me by my characters,
Not by the colour of my skin.
