Stuck down here

With the rats and the bugs,

Trying to keep my eyes

Fixated above.

But it's quite hard

For the lowliest souls,

To believe there is more

Outside of this hole.

We try to stay positive

In a world gone mad.

We try to remember

The dreams we had.

We fight back the envy

And hold back jealous rage,

Believing instead

That this is just a phase.

Loneliness creeps in

From the corners of our mind,

And plays on the fears

Formed over time.

Disparity takes hold

And my gaze starts to fall.

I'm overtly aware

Of my own closing walls.

In the darkness

Of my depression,

A spark of light

That refuses suppression.

A glittering beacon

Rising overhead,

Reminding me that

I am not yet dead.

That glimmer of hope,

Rising up,

Keeps my eyes

Fixated above.
