On a cool October night, Halloween to be precise, a man and a woman make a declaration to always love each other for as long as they live. What they felt would their happiest of days was simply a warning of the impending doom that awaited their future. Best friends at the start always talking and laughing feeling as though nothing could go wrong until they began inviting other people into their home and even their bed. It wasn't difficult at first for either of them as they didn't really think they were in love like you should be as husband and wife. To them it was marriage of comfort, lust, friendship, and mutually beneficial polyamorous situations that they loved exploring openly together. As the years went by they came to lose houses, cars, jobs, and even their desire to remain open minded and sexually free. The fights would become worse by the months then the weeks tearing them apart over time. As they approached their eighth year of wedded bliss so to speak they agreed to settle down and be completely monogamous. Surprisingly this worked for them for another two years until she senses in him an unhappiness that she can't fix. He wanted to be a father again and this is the one thing he knew she couldn't provide. So she sought out his oldest daughter hoping he could have a relationship of any kind with her. The road was rough but eventually they talked. And for three months things seemed better. As January came around snow covered everything in sight and he left for work kissing her goodbye. She went off to her job not thinking she'd never see his blue eyes again and having a great day at work. She came home expecting to make dinner and spend time with her husband. Buy what she discovered destroyed her entire life that fateful night. The house locked up, the dogs kennelled, the lights all turned off, van gone, and her brain didn't piece it together right away. As she went upstairs to change out if her work clothes she saw no blankets, no clothes, no TV, nothing was left in sight. Both game room and bedroom had been emptied out leaving nothing but trash behind. She knew he was gone and screamed throughout the house tears filling her eyes. She stumbled down to the kitchen to find a simple note so briefly stated. "Sorry, can't do this no more " no explanation or reason why, no conversation about possibly ending it civilly. Her entire life and all that she had known for ten years or more was suddenly ripped away. So that night she walked in this terrible snowstorm trying to seek friends or a simple warm embrace. And hours later with no gloves or coat her two brothers appeared to rescue her forcing her to take time to think of how to survive without him. The things she did that night and the next had her awake for days on end. Unable to focus at work, unable to eat or sleep, refusing to let him go without a fight. And here it is two and a half years later and she still can't find her place in this life without the love of a good man. Tired if feeling sorry for herself she knows things have to change but where to start is her biggest decision and her mind always draws a blank. Maybe one day her life will be able to resume a routine and comfort that shows her she matters in this world. Until then she will remain tormented inside as a failure in everything she's done.
