I find peace

In the darkest places.

Close my eyes

And remember the faces.

Smiles and laughs

And sideways grins,

Happy moments

When life was dim.

Brotherhood forged

In the hellish fire,

Of a war overseas

With soldiers I admire.

Through the fear,

Through the pain,

With my brothers

I stayed sane.

But the horrors of war

Are not easily dismissed.

Scarred flesh still remains

From the bullets that missed.

Tears still flow

For the kids we lost.

We know all to well

What that freedom cost.

Through Hell's gates,

Through fire and fury,

In a war

Where the lines are blurry.

My life, forever indebted

To those brave souls.

I will meet them again

Inside Valhalla's halls.

Forever humbled

By what we went through,

I am so very grateful

For those magnificent few.

  • Life is magnificent for some people who deserve the various benefits because they know - how to live and face problems, as living is an art also!
