You are in a heated discussion reedy to answer back
You  disagree with what he’s saying 
He is way off the track

You got the gist of what he’s saying
But have you heard his entire point
Your focusing on your response
Your listening skill is out of joint 

Listening - like any skill has to be practiced
to be perfected 
Often times were so emotionally caught up
In the topic
We tend to reject it

To have a complete understanding of what’s 
being said 
Either by you or the other
You  cannot think ahead 
Which is difficult to do

In the heat of conversation we often 
compromise this skill 
If disciplined to utilize it
It’s a bonus not a frill
