Chapter 1:
“Mom mom mom! Wake up today we have to go to the fair!” Mrs. Adams was awoken by. “Calm down honey the fair isn't going to grow legs and walk away before you get there.” “It might if we don't hurry!” 7 year old Emily exclaimed. “OK sweetheart give us five more minutes to sleep and we'll go. OK?” Mr. Adams said. “OK fine!” Emily said angrily stomping away in a childlike manner. After five minutes they came down stairs and was getting ready to go. “Why are you in such a hurry to go anyway?” Mrs. Adams asked.” “Because Mr. Jones is the clown this year!” Emily said excitedly. Mr Jones was Emily's kindergarten teacher. The only teacher that Emily ever truly trusted and liked. “And don't forget that we have to pick up Jackson too” Emily continued. Jackson had been Emily's best friend since pre-K. “OK honey we'll get him. But first I have to make sure his parents are OK with it and that they're awake.” Mrs. Adams said. “OK! Let's just go already!” Emily exclaimed impatiently. “Look, it's only 9:30 and the fair doesn't open until 10:00. We have plenty of time. Besides it doesn't even close until midnight.” Mr. Adams told Emily. “I know dad, but I want to be there all day!” Mr. Adams rolled his eyes annoyed. They finally left the house to get Jackson. Emily fell asleep since she had been awake ever since 5:00 that morning. When they arrived at Jackson’s house Emily sprung up as if she was scared by something. “We're here” Mr. Adams said in relief. Jackson walked out to the car wearing a flat-bill cap, Nirvana t-shirt, and baggy pants. He was kind of a “punk-like” kid. As most would describe him based on his appearance. But he was really a nice kid, he likes to joke around alot. “Jackson! Are you ready to see Mr. Jones!?” Emily asked very excitedly. As you can probably tell Emily is a very hyper, energetic child. “Yeah, I guess” Jackson replied calmly. “Oh, dad you've never met Jackson have you?” asked Emily. “No I can't recall that I have” Mr. Adams answered while exhaling. “He's the class clown.” “Is that true?” Mr. Adams asked with a smile on his face. “Yes sir. That's what most consider me I guess.” Jackson replied chuckling. Mr Adams chuckled.

Chapter 2:
When they arrived at the fair there was a sign that read “WELCOME TO THE ANNUAL COUNTY FAIR!”. “Damn it! I can't find a spot to park” Mr. Adams said angrily. “Hush up that sailor talk!” Mrs. Adams told him sternly. “I'm sorry hon, all these dead-gum spots are taken and every time I find one just before we get there some ASS HOLE gets in front of us and takes it.” “James what did I just say about cursing?” Mr. Adams ignored her while driving angrily. Emily and Jackson didn't say anything as they were nervous about the situation. By now Mr. Adams’ head was steaming. He had veins popping out of his forehead. After five minutes of circling around the parking lot they finally found a spot. “Damn! We drove around for ten minutes trying to get a freaking spot!” Mrs. Adams didn't say anything about him cursing this time because she knew it wouldn't do any good. “You didn't take your stress pill this morning did you hon?” “No I didn't because we were rushed out the fricken house like we was at boot camp, to go to a stupid carnival!” Mr. Adams said angrily. “Technically it's not a carnival, it's a fair.” Emily said. She was kind of a smart ass, rude kid. Mr. Adams turned around at her and growled in kind of a funny madder. Although he wasn't trying to be funny. Emily and Jackson smiled and chuckled quietly with their hands over their mouths. “OK let's go.” Mrs. Adams said. They got out of the car and started walking towards the ticket booth. “Hey mom can we go find Mr. Jones before we go on rides?”. Mrs. Adams looked at Mr. Adams. He shrugged his shoulders. “You promise you'll be on your best behavior?” Mrs. Adams asked with her eyebrows raised. “Yes” she replied. “And you?” She looked at Jackson “Yes ma'am.” He replied with a serious face. “OK but be careful, and stay together at all times. You got it?” She pointed at Emily “Yes” she replied. Then she pointed at Jackson “Yes ma'am” he replied. “OK go have fun!” Mrs. Adams exclaimed. They ran off laughing to find Mr. Jones.

Chapter 3:
They walked for 20 minutes looking for him. “Are you sure he was talking about this fair?” asked Jackson. “I'm pretty sure he said he was gonna be at our annual fair.” replied Emily. They kept looking for a few more minutes, but they still hadn't found him. “I hate to tell you Emily, but I don't think he's here” said Jackson. “He said-” Emily stopped as she saw clown shoes and the shape of a clown wig through a tent. “Mr. Jones! Come on Jackson!” she yelled grabbing Jackson's hand and dragging him behind her. They ran around the tent and saw a clown with big red clown shoes, multi-colored wig, big red nose, colourful jumpsuit, and big red smile. Emily ran up behind the clown and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around. “Mr. Jones! I knew we would find you!” Emily exclaimed. “Hey Mr. Jones, what's up?” said Jackson with a smile on his face. The clown stood there for a second looking confused. “OH YEAH!” he said in a goofy, nasally voice. “What's up guys how you doing?” “We're doing good” “Y'all having fun yet? The fair’s only been open for fifteen minutes.” Mr. Jones said. “Yeah we're having fun. You doing OK Mr. Jones?” Emily asked. “Yes I'm doing good as always. Man, Jackson you've gotten taller and bigger. I'm assuming from playing football?” “Yes sir.” Jackson replied smiling. “ And you, Emily. You've gotten bigger too.” Emily laughed. “Thank you Mr. Jones” “Would you like to met my parents?” asked Emily excitedly. “We'll I'll tell you what, I get off at 8:00 tonight. When I do I'll be happy to meet your parents and maybe they'll let me, you, and Jackson go out to eat. What do you say?” Asked Mr. Jones in his normal voice. “Yeah that'll work” replied Emily. “OK now you guys go have fun! HAHA!” he said in his goofy voice. “OK we will!” yelled Jackson as Emily was running while pulling his hand. They went and played games and had fun on rides all day. Around 7:00 that night they ran back into Mr and Mrs. Adams. “Did y'all have fun” Mr. Adams asked “Sure did” Jackson answered. “Hey mom, Mr. Jones said that he gets off at 8:00 and he would like to meet y'all. He said maybe me, Jackson, and him could go out to eat dinner.” “We'll see about it” Mrs. Adams replied. “OK we're gonna go play some more before we leave.” “OK be careful.” Mr. Adams said. They ran off to go on more rides. “Who the hell would want to be friends with a clown?” Mr. Adams asked with a confused face. “Oh James, they're not friends with a clown, they're friends with Mr. Jones.” “Yeah but you know that I hate clowns. I have ever since I was five years old.” “You never told me that” Mrs. Adams said. “Why is that?” “Because when I was five, I went to a carnival, met a clown who kidnapped me, took me to his house and tried to rape me. I was damn lucky that the police showed up and arrested him before he did anything.” “Oh, I'm so sorry!” Mrs. Adams said while hugging him. Then they saw Emily and Jackson walking towards them with a tall, kind of chubby man. He must've been 6’4. “Mom, dad this is Mr. Jones.” “Hi. Nice to meet you.” said Mr. Jones with a friendly smile. They talked for about five minutes. Because obviously Mr and Mrs. Adams wanted to get to know Mr Jones better before they let Emily and Jackson go somewhere with him. “OK kids, you can go eat with him. But be on your very best behavior. “OK” they replied simultaneously. “Here's my number” Mrs. Adams gave Mr. Jones a sticky note with her number on it. “Thank you and here's my number.” Mr. Jones gave her a paper with his number on it. “OK bye. Y'all be good for Mr. Jones.” Mr. Adams told the kids. “OK we will.” the kids said. While they was walking out with Mr. Jones, Emily saw another clown walking in the gates. “Hey look Mr. Jones, another clown. Does he do your job when you get off?” she asked. “Yeah.” he replied. They got into his truck and left.

Chapter 4:
They got into Mr. Jones truck. “Hey Mr. Jones, do you have a nickname?” asked Jackson. “Well my first name is Johnny, and since my last name is Jones, most people call me ‘JJ’. “OK can we start calling you that?” asked Emily. “Why of course you can!” exclaimed Mr. Jones. “So where do you guys want to eat?” “It doesn't matter to me.” replied Jackson.” “Me either.” said Emily. “Alright how about ‘Burger King’?” asked Mr. Jones. “That's good with me.” said Jackson “What about you Emily?” “Yeah that'll work.”. They arrived at Burger King. They went in to get something to eat. Jackson ordered a double cheeseburger with a small fry and coke to drink. Emily ordered a ten piece chicken nugget meal with a small fry and coke to drink. Mr. Jones ordered two double cheeseburgers and a large fry with mellow yellow to drink. They finished eating, and left. “I've got to get some gas before I take y'all home OK” they stopped at the gas station. Mr. Jones went in to get some snacks and a pack of cigarettes, then they left. “So did y'all have fun today?” “Yeah. We had a great time.” replied Emily. They took Jackson home first. “Bye Mr. Jones I had a great time!” “OK bye Jackson good night!” yelled Mr. Jones as he drove away. They finally got to Emily's house. “Oh so this is where you live huh?” “Yes sir” Emily said yawning. “OK we'll have to do something else fun soon.” “OK Mr. Jones. Bye.” “Bye.” Mr. Jones said smiling. He drove off and went home. Emily was so tired and exhausted that she didn't even brush her teeth or get in her pajamas, she just went straight upstairs and flopped on her bed.

Chapter 5:
Emily woke up the next morning feeling completely exhausted. “Emily! You better get up and get dressed!” called her mom. Emily let out an aggravated moan. “OK mom!” she answered. She went downstairs still wearing the clothes she wore yesterday. “Honey you better go change clothes. You don't want to go to school wearing the clothes you did yesterday do you?” Mrs. Adams asked her smiling. Emily was playing with her eggs and toast mom had made her for breakfast. “No, I guess not. That'll give the other kids even more to make fun of me about.” she answered with a small frown on her face. “Just ignore them honey. If someone ever makes fun of you it's because they feel bad about themselves.” she looked at Emily just sitting there looking like she had a hangover. “I had bullies in school too. You can't let them get you down sweetheart.” Mrs. Adams said in a motherly tone. Emily still had no response. Her dad came downstairs slurring his speech. “Good morning my beautiful wife and daughter!” he said in a  rambunctious way. Mrs. Adams gave him a mean look. “You've been drinking again haven't you?” “Yeah” answered Mr. Adams. Emily's dad was a very rude, mean, abusive asshole when he's drunk. “What have I told you about drinking, especially before work?” asked her mom. “Look Luella, I can do whatever the hell I want to do when I want to!” he yelled aggressively. Emily got up and went upstairs quickly. She remembers the time he came home drunk after work when she was only 5 and he hit her pretty hard. Mr. Adams wasn't a bad guy, but when he drank, he was. Emily went upstairs listening to them yell and argue. She changed clothes, brushed her teeth, and combed her hair. She grabbed her backpack and went downstairs to see the bus at the end of her driveway. She told her parents bye and left.

Chapter 6:

She went outside and got on the bus. You could still hear her parents arguing and yelling. She found Jackson and sat beside him. “Is that your parents?” asked Jackson sounding worried. “Yeah. My dad’s been drinking again.” replied Emily sadly. “I never thought that Mr. Adams was ever like that.” said Jackson. Even though Jackson always made even the worst situation into a joke he had sympathy for her. He placed his hand on her back “I'm sorry” he said with sympathy. “It's OK. I'm used to it by now.” Emily said with a tear running down her cheek. It was a quiet bus ride all the way to their school. When they arrived, they got off and went to their room. They both had the same teacher: Ms. Cruz. Or “Ms. Bitch” as Emily remembered her dad calling her. Ms. Cruz was a rather cruel mean old woman. They sat next to each other in class. The day went by very slowly. All Emily did all day was daydream out the window and think about things that had nothing to do with her classwork. She wondered if her dad was going to be drunk when she got home. She certainly hoped not. “EMILY!” yelled Ms. Cruz. Emily jumped as if startled. “Yes ma'am?” “I have called your name like 5 times. What are you deaf?”. (I would call her a bitch too). Emily looked at her with a mad, angry face “No ma'am.” “Then what were you doing? Staring out the window daydreaming, thinking about how you'll grow up to die alone?” Emily felt like she just got punched in the stomach. “No ma'am” she answered. “You think just because you're the smartest one in this class you don't have to pay attention?” “WeIl she is pretty smart. Unlike you.” Jackson interjected with a defensive voice. “I'm smarter than you! Ya little snot!” Ms. Cruz yelled at him. “Ms. Emily I really don't want to go through this again. Just pay attention from now on.” Emily rolled her eyes. She knew that Ms. Cruz didn't want to because of her dad and his temper. “Yes ma'am” replied Emily. Jackson looked at Emily and shook his head while exhaling. The three o'clock bell rang. They left the room and on their way to their bus, they saw Mr. Jones locking up his classroom door. “Hey Mr. Jones! I had a really fun time yesterday at the carnival!” yelled Emily excitedly. Mr. Jones looked at her with a confused look on his face for about five seconds. He finally answered “That's great” “It was awesome to see you there.” said Emily. Her and Jackson ran on trying not to miss their bus. Mr. Jones looked confused once again. But he thought nothing of it and went to his car to leave.

Chapter 7:

They got to Jackson’s house “Bye Jackson. Don't forget to do that crap for Ms. Cruz.” “I won't” he lot out of his seat and left. About two or three minutes later the bus stopped at Emily’s house. She got off and went in through her front door. As she went into the kitchen to get a snack her mom was cleaning, because she was a stay-home mom. Mr. Adams was passed out on the couch, with a mini trashcan that he had been throwing up in. “Hey baby. Did you have a good day at school?” asked her mom. “Yeah I guess. I actually didn't have anyone call me names or anything.” replied Emily. That night Emily was taking her bath. There was a window in her bathroom. It was a dark, stormy, and cold night. She felt as if someone was watching her. As if just staring at her. She just shook it off and thought nothing of it. She got out dried off, put on her pajamas, brushed her teeth, and went to bed. Later that night she couldn't sleep. She still felt like someone or something was still staring at her. She heard a knock at her window beside her bed, kind of like a the sound of a rock tapping it. “Emmmillyy”  she heard a voice cry out. It was almost like a whisper but it sounded very creepy. She kept saying to herself “It's just my imagination.” she said that to herself at least two dozen times quietly. It kept calling her name and tapping the window. She called “Mom, dad!” they came rushing into her bedroom. All they could see is complete terror on Emily's face. “What is it baby?” asked Mrs. Adams. “I felt like someone was watching me, and I kept hearing my name being called, and I kept hearing a tapping at my window.” she said crying. It may not sound that scary, but for a small child it would be terrifying. Her dad went to the window while her mom was trying to soothe her. “There's not a damn thing out there honey.” said her dad. “Just come and sleep in our room tonight OK?” her mom said. Emily shook her head while crying hysterically. They left and went to her parents bedroom. Mr. Adams went back to the window and looked at it.”How the hell did those scratches get on the outside of the window?” he asked himself. There was scratches from what looked like from a really sharp knife, there was also little holes, as if something was tapping it. Mr. Adams shrugged his shoulders and went back to bed.

Chapter 8:

The next morning was Saturday October 1st. Halloween was Emily's favorite holiday, right behind Christmas. Emily couldn't sleep last night. She couldn't help but keep thinking about what happened that night. She knew that she wasn't dreaming or hallucinating. She knew what she heard and felt was real. It had to have been, there was no way she felt that scared and it wasn't real. Her mom woke up “Hey hon,do you feel better?”. Emily laid there still thinking about the fear that she felt. She had never felt that scared before. “Kind of. I'm still scared mom” said Emily with a serious expression on her face. “It's fine sweetie. I checked your room and your window last night. I found nothing out of the ordinary.” said Mr. Adams as he was rising out of the bed. Later that morning they went downstairs for breakfast. Emily finished eating “Hey mom, can I call Jackson's mom, and ask if he can come over?” “Yeah I think that'll be fine.” her mom replied. Emily left the room and went to the living room. “Hey uh-” Mr. Adams stopped. Mrs. Adams was looking at him “When y'all left the room, I went to check the window, and I saw scratches and little holes. Looks like a knife did it.” continued Mr. Adams. Mrs. Adams looked very concerned and a little scared. “You mean there was actually marks from a knife on her window?” she asked looking very concerned. “I'm not saying that's what it's from. It could be from a bird or something. I said it LOOKS like it was from a knife.” Mrs. Adams was very concerned at this point. “What if it was? Who's trying to get our daughter?” “I don't know. But if it is someone, I'm gonna find out why.” answered Mr. Adams. Emily came running back into the kitchen “Hey mom, Jackson's mom said that he can come over for a while!” she was very excited. “OK honey that's good.” Mrs. Adams started to cry and ran out the kitchen and upstairs. “What's wrong with mom?” asked Emily with a confused look. “Nothing. She's just really tired and stressed. Leave her alone in our room for a while. OK?” said Emily's dad. “OK.” replied Emily as she skipped to her room. As Mrs. Adams was laying on their bed crying with her face in her pillow, she heard a knock At the door. “Who is it?” she asked while sobbing and sniffling. “It's me honey. Can I come in?”. There was a pause. “Yeah” Mr. Adams walked in and sat beside her on the bed. “You OK baby?” he asked. “Yeah. I just don't see why anyone would want to try to get our baby. That's my worst fear!” she exclaimed trying to not cry. “We'll it's all over with now. Let's just pretend that it never even happened. OK?”. Mrs. Adams shook her head “yes” and turned on her side. “I'm gonna take a nap.” “OK. I'll be playing with Jackson and Emily outside if you need me.” said Mr. Adams. He got up and left to go outside. As Mrs. Adams lay there and cried herself to sleep.

Chapter 9:

Later that night, Emily took a bath, put on her pajamas, and brushed her teeth. She had the same routine every night. But this time she didn't feel like anyone was watching. Still though, she remembered last night so well that she’s scared it might happen again. She went to bed in her room once again. It was a very quiet night. Now that I think about it, it was scary in itself how quiet it was. No dogs barking, no cars going up or down the road, not even the wind blowing or leaves rustling. But it didn't bother Emily. She was sleeping like a baby. When all of the sudden, she heard her bedroom door slowly creep open until it hit the wall. Emily didn't even raise up and see who or what it was. She was too scared. She heard it’s footsteps get closer and closer to her bed. Her heart was beating so hard she could hear it, even over the loud footsteps. She had a metal baseball bat in her bed that she grabbed and had a death-grip on. Once the footsteps was right beside her, she jumped up and hit the figure on the head. “AH! Damn it what the hell!?”. The figure reached up and turned on the ceiling fan light. Then Emily realized that it was her dad. “Oh, I'm so sorry dad!” Emily exclaimed. He had a big gash on his forehead that was just oozing blood. So much that it was running down his face and dripping on the carpet. He ran to the bathroom, and got some toilet paper to put on his gash. Emily ran in “Oh my god, I'm so sorry dad. I thought you were someone else.”. “It's fine honey. But next time I come in to check on you I'm gonna turn on the fan and jump around like a money.”. Emily laughed “I'm sorry dad. I got scared again.”. “Don't worry about it. Go back to bed.” said Mr. Adams. “Are you gonna be OK dad?” “Yeah I'll be fine. May need some stitches but I'll be fine. Now you little ‘Jackey Chan’, can go back to bed.” Emily shook her head “yes” and went to bed.
