A drop of water they savour greatly
Their eyes wild with hunger
Thunder rustling in their belly
The poor they have become

A bag of bones they now are
A shadow of their former self
Food, a scarce commodity to them
They long for it but it never comes

Tears they can shed no more
The energy for play present no more
Ravaged by diseases and hunger
A weak people they have become

Who would come to their aid?
Everyday, death comes knocking
They are not strong enough to resist
Good health seems far from them

They have shouted a lot
Now their voice is lost
While the rich spend lavishly
They wallow in the pit of poverty

Many look forward to their death
A day their sufferings would vanish
Only if they could find a helper
Then would they be happy again
