Steve is puffing, sitting at the rock brooding over his life; the kind of situation he had put him into when he was young. No money in hand, pocket money also depleted very fast without giving any alarm. How at one point of time he was very scared of drug peddlers, the same people who had pushed him into a muddy life with no end visible. 'Take your tiffin beta', he remembers how his mother prepared food for him in the morning but he always demanded money and preferred canteen food over his mother's cooked food. But the same money became a curse. Seeing him having money, a man lured him to try sweet candy, which according to him would make him very happy. He fell into his trap. That was a new way of introducing him to a drug world where he didn't know at that time that there would be no return from that. That was a trap, of which he was unaware and later how that would keep tightening its noose around his neck with each passing day. He offered him free candy for a few days and he loved his new company who was offering him a thing which was a mood changer. After a point of time, that boy asked for money, which he gave as he had. He felt more happy, didn't scowl at his younger sibling, took homemade food and saved money for buying drug. Mother was happy that her son was improving becoming serious in studies, dad was happy too that his son remained more in room than loitering around although unknown to others that he was resting more under the effect of drug than studying. Well, this continued for sometime. He couldn't know when he was put on strong dosage and with that demand for more money increased. In panic, he started stealing money sometimes from mom and other times from dad. His card report also showed poor performance, which surely jolted his parents. His behavior too changed, he became more aggressive and sometimes violent too, almost a pain in the neck of friends and parents. As if on cue, his mother started spying on him and sniffed something suspicious happening to him. She remained disturbed and worried and one some day that shocking moment came, which jolted her out of life. He had fever, which was not going, so she took him to hospital where his blood tested him to be on drugs. Doctor too confirmed it. She felt her world was crumbling down in front of her. She felt weak in her knees and was unable to walk even a few steps. A nurse helped her and him to get in rick. He knew he was the cause of her new illness, which was bothering her a lot. Finally, she shared with his dad. Dad was damn angry but parents are parents, they enrolled him in rehab. It was a torturing period but with constant support he could recover in six months. He learnt a big lesson but lost a precious year. He had to sit with his juniors, which was embarrassing but had no choice. This bitter pill he had to digest to progress in life. Journey became smoother after a couple of years. Life had certainly kicked him hard, which was almost like kissing death but thanks to his parents who stood by him like a rock. One troubling question still lingers in his mind after so many years even as why one falls into the trap of drugs? Is it because one is struggling with emotional issues, physical abuse by peers or simply weak at taking right decision or may be adolescent vulnerability. Well, whatever be the reason of it, life ahead certainly becomes a complete hell. The pain, the struggle, shame and everyone pointing out towards ones mistakes only. Sympathatic words of others jeers at you like a hot air but you remain helpless. Steve says loudly as if he has audience, 'My friends, be strong and never be a prey to such dug peddlers who are monsters, always ready to push young and vulnerable children into hell. I occasionally smoke but I know occasionally also can become a strong habit. Today I would quit it for ever. One time lucky doesn't mean can always be lucky to live a decent life.'
