Where I stand

From Where I stand,
‘Tis not all grand.
I being merely another face in the crowd.
With shaking voice that’s not that loud.

Yet inside roars a hunger,
One of a thousand voices full, proud.
Simply hidden by this fear it’s under.
Tears fall in silent refuge.
For what humanity every day will lose.

Every being left upon cold city streets.
Every child left without food to eat.
Every family taken from life’s very seat.
Every act of sheer violence upon the meek.

Unravels our deepest core of being,
Until we are no more human,
Merely empty shells of what could be.
For we closed our eyes as not to see…
This fragile gift, called Humanity.
