Although collectivism has good intent, it fails. This is for several reasons. 

Profit 
If people aren't forced to do work, and there not being rewarded, no one will do it. It is similar too the tax curve theory, where there a certain ponit where the state loses money from high taxes, but this is price control. 

Forced labor 
Forcing people to do labor is inefficient, because the cost of security, and supplies would out way the profits. It is better to have pay labor because you don't have to enforce law of production for every worker. However this goes against collectivism. 
 
However, collectivism is possible with automation, because automation doesn't want profit, and it will work harder then the normal worker.
