The bullet tears through the brain.

It's all so fast, there is no pain.

But in that span of milliseconds,

Pieces of a life flash as death beckons.

Memories of childhood, running around all day.  And then adolescence, learning about these ways.  College and combat, friends who have gone home. The overwhelming feeling of being alone.  Old flames and young lovers, the loss of too many brothers.

Now a family, children and a wife.  Regrets and sorrows that permeate the fabric of this life.  Too much to handle, it all came undone.

So much sadness where there used to be fun.  The memories are fading, leaving only a dark void.  And a dull buzzing, such a dreadful noise. That, too, goes quiet.  And all that's left...

                                              ...is silence.

Authors note:  while I don't feel this way personally, it is a very real issue in today's world.  If you know of someone who is having suicidal thoughts, step up and help out.  You could be saving a life.
