He breathes deep uncaring of the unrelenting hateHe must trudge forth this untamed pathWild things, beastly in natureRoam these woodsKnowing only that this is their home and he is uninvitedThe forest watches him in disdainThe man continues, wishing only for this charade to endHis steps are anvilsAll is watching, stalkingHe knew of this yet trudged onBehind him, not so far as to not catch him is he slowed progress, was his predatorThat relentless being which now pursued himTrudge onOne foot in front of the otherHe seeks only salvationHis unwavering prosecutor's wrath would not be quenchedHe searched the woods for some shelterA hidden place that his presence could he concealedBut in unison the oppressedRoots grew to trip, branches, sway to hitAs growls spout up from every directionIgnore it! He criedThe words now have burrowed past his courage to his fearHe shivered, cold crept slowly into his bodyPushing forward, he delved deeper into the thick woodHe scanned ever more closely the forest that grew in disdainThe growls intensifiedHowls of delight erupted out of these treesAs if all around him held a pack of enclosing beastsThe howls neared, echoing in the nightHe could see the fog in his breathHe crept forward, halting notWhat further anger awaited this manHe could not fathom, but ignored fear steeling his will he continuedHe must escape, he must runNever stopping, he trudgesBut he must run or surely he will meet his hated pursuerPanic began to take himHe would not let the reigns of his nerves be wrenched from himA branch snapped from somewhere to one sideHe fought down the terror which gripped himSnap, crackHis heart tired to race againHe must find sanctuaryCrack, SnapEver closerSnap, CrackHe could not control his nerves any longerHe bolted through the woodsIt grows ever thickerLight now filters only vaguelyCrack, SnapHe felt the hair on his arms, legs, and neck rose to attentionHe sensed I, akin to a frightened animalAs to smell it's presence, or merely knowSnap, crackThe light that pierced through the thick Forest cast shadowy figures on the forest floorDancing and lunging from one trunk to anotherHe raced deeper into the thick wood of the forestTighter the branches meshed and woveCrack, snap, crackHis breath sped up as the shadows closed in on himSnap, crack, crack, snapHe squeezed his palms to his earsPanic seizing his formHe gasped, crumpling to the groundCrack, snap, snap, crackHe sobbed in silence as the sound crept closerHe closed his eyesSnap, crackHe felt the body above himAbove him staringDeep breaths, not his own, issued from his pursuerRagged, deep, pungent breathsHe felt his lip quiver as he awaited deathSilenceBreathing, then silenceHe opened his eyes and only light speckled his bodyHas it been an illusion, his persistent pursuerHe trudged on through the woodsSparser and sparser did the trees partThe ragged, deep breath, It felt so realBut now his fears were questioned by realityFor what an odd this it isthe mindIt fools and altersPerception is not as it seemsA snap of branchesA crack of wooddid the forest ever hate himWhat a power doth the mind haveFor how can a forest hatehow can a shadow chaseLight fell upon the ground nowThe woods flowed out into a valleyFlowed till there was no moreFarther and fartherHe stopped and gazed back and smiledFor such horrors of fancy did he wroughtSuch terror did his mind set in playHe turned once more to the valleyAnd upon a single stepA single breathInhale, ExhaleThus from the earthThe mighty mother Gia, leapt forth a creatureFrom his right eye and his mouth dropped that ominous fluidDark red tell tale signDid the woods hate him? That crack, that snapNow collapsed The victim lies motionlessAfter the gargle sound of choking cheersSilence, once more takes the valleyThe shafts in the body of the victim are removedWith slow and methodical planDoes the valley swallow deepThus was how he chose his place of eternal rest
