He breathes deep uncaring of the unrelenting hate
He must trudge forth this untamed path
Wild things, beastly in nature
Roam these woods
Knowing only that this is their home and he is uninvited
The forest watches him in disdain
The man continues, wishing only for this charade to end
His steps are anvils
All is watching, stalking
He knew of this yet trudged on
Behind him, not so far as to not catch him is he slowed progress, was his predator
That relentless being which now pursued him
Trudge on
One foot in front of the other
He seeks only salvation
His unwavering prosecutor's wrath would not be quenched
He searched the woods for some shelter
A hidden place that his presence could he concealed
But in unison the oppressed
Roots grew to trip, branches, sway to hit
As growls spout up from every direction
Ignore it! He cried
The words now have burrowed past his courage to his fear
He shivered, cold crept slowly into his body
Pushing forward, he delved deeper into the thick wood
He scanned ever more closely the forest that grew in disdain
The growls intensified
Howls of delight erupted out of these trees
As if all around him held a pack of enclosing beasts
The howls neared, echoing in the night
He could see the fog in his breath
He crept  forward, halting not
What further anger awaited this man
He could not fathom, but ignored fear steeling his will he continued
He must escape, he must run
Never stopping, he trudges
But he must run or surely he will meet his hated pursuer
Panic began to take him
He would not let the reigns of his nerves be wrenched from him
A branch snapped from somewhere to one side
He fought down the terror which gripped him
Snap, crack
His heart tired to race again
He must find sanctuary
Crack, Snap
Ever closer
Snap, Crack
He could not control his nerves  any longer
He bolted through the woods
It grows ever thicker
Light now filters only vaguely
Crack, Snap
He felt the hair on his arms, legs, and neck rose to attention
He sensed I, akin to a frightened animal
As to smell it's presence, or merely know
Snap, crack
The light that pierced through the thick Forest cast shadowy figures on the forest floor
Dancing and lunging from one trunk to another
He raced deeper into the thick wood of the forest
Tighter the branches meshed and wove
Crack, snap, crack
His breath sped up as the shadows closed in on him
Snap, crack, crack, snap
He squeezed his palms to his ears
Panic seizing his form
He gasped, crumpling to the ground
Crack, snap, snap, crack
He sobbed in silence as the sound crept closer
He closed his eyes
Snap, crack
He felt the body above him
Above him staring
Deep breaths, not his own, issued from his pursuer
Ragged, deep, pungent breaths
He felt his lip quiver as he awaited death
Silence
Breathing, then silence
He opened his eyes and only light speckled his body
Has it been an illusion, his persistent pursuer
He trudged on through the woods
Sparser and sparser did the trees part
The ragged, deep breath, It felt so real
But now his fears were questioned by reality
For what an odd this it is
the mind
It fools and alters
Perception is not as it seems
A snap of branches
A crack of wood
did the forest ever hate him
What a power doth the mind have
For how can a forest hate
how can a shadow chase
Light fell upon the ground now
The woods flowed out into a valley
Flowed till there was no more
Farther and farther
He stopped and gazed back  and smiled
For such horrors of fancy did he wrought
Such terror did his mind set in play
He turned once more to the valley
And upon a single step
A single breath
Inhale, Exhale
Thus from the earth
The mighty mother Gia, leapt forth a creature
From his right eye and his mouth dropped that ominous fluid
Dark red tell tale sign
Did  the woods hate him?
That crack, that snap
Now collapsed The victim lies motionless
After the gargle sound of choking cheers
Silence, once more takes the valley
The shafts in the body of the victim are removed
With slow and methodical plan
Does the valley swallow deep
Thus was how he chose his place of eternal rest
