Ten- In-laws Are in Town
Ava's parent's plane was scheduled to land at noon. Ava decided to be there at least half hour early. Jay tagged along with her. The seatbelt of the car use to be simple to his belly. But now the baby had grown much more, making it tedious getting the belt on. Ava was about to pull the car out of the driveway, until Jay informed her he needed to use that restroom. She patiently stops the car and Jay hurried back into the house. Five minutes later, he comes back out and gets into the car. Ava helps him put back on his seatbelt, then she proceeds to drive away from the house.
The drive to the airport was about fifteen minutes long. Once they arrived, Ava parked the car near the enterance of the building. Jay took his time getting out of the car. Ava assists him and closes the door. They hold each others hands as they enter. As they were headed to the gate that Ava's parents were going to dock at, Parker shifts his little body, putting pressure on Jay's bladder. Jay starts crossing his legs. He sees a men's bathroom a few feet away.
"Ava, go ahead and wait at the gate. I will be there in a few minutes. I have to use the restroom again." Jay says, jumping up and down.
"Again? Seriously, you just went fifteen minutes ago."
"I've been going a lot more lately. Trust me, I don't like it any more than you do." He races to the restroom.
Eventually making it to the gate, Jay and Ava sat down on one of the rows of chairs next to the window. They watched other planes unload their passengers as they waited for Henry and Diana. Jay stretches out in his seat and rested his hands on his belly. Rotating his swollen feet, Jay lets out a groggy sigh.
"These chairs are not comfortable at all." He grumbles as his squirms in his seat.
"The plane will be here in ten minutes. Just a little longer, okay? You can rest when we get home. I think at this stage, you should be taking it easy anyway."
"Yeah, you're probably right." Jay agrees.
Ava was right. Her parents' plane docked right on time. Passengers steadily entered through the gate. Out of all the people that were entering, Jay and Ava recognized a load of suitcases piled onto one another among the crowd.
"That's your mom." Jay laughs and points out Diana.
They both go to meet up with her parents. Her father, Henry, was pulling the heavy luggage behind him. Diana walked beside him, strutting gracefully like there was a fan blowing in front of her. She caught sight of her daughter and her pregnant son-in-law. Diana squealed with excitement.
"Hi, Mom!" Ava was happy to see her.
"Ava, honey!" She delightfully says she embraced her daughter.
"Well, we're here!" Henry also hugs Ava.
"Hi, Dad!"
"And, hello Jay!" Diana warmly says as she hugs Jay.
"Hello, Diana." Jay smiles. "How was your flight?"
"Pleasant. Thank you."
"Hi, Henry." Jay greets Ava's father. They shook hands with a slight nod of the head.
"Hello, Jayden."
"Dad, let me help you with the bags." Ava offered. She readily assists her father. "Are most of these Mom's?"
"What do you think?" Henry laughs.
Ava nods with a clear understanding. "Ah, I'll take that as a 'yes.'"
Diana bends down and talks to Jay's belly in a baby voice. "And how is my grandson? Hello, little one! It's your grandma."
"He's been good." Jay answers with a broad smile.
"Come on, everybody. Let's go to the car." Ava leads the family with half of the suitcases.
"Do you need help, babe?" Jay asks.
"No, it's fine. I've got it. Besides, you're pregnant. You shouldn't carry heavy things."
Henry and Ava finished loading the trunk with the bags then get into the car with Diana and Jay. Ava drove the car out of the airport parking lot. She looks at the number of bags through her rearview mirror.
"Mom, you packed a lot more that usual this time. You're only staying for the weekend. Do you have other plans after visiting with us?"
Diana and Henry first exchanged glances, then Diana spoke up. "Ava, dear, your father and I have a surprise for the both of you."
"Oh? What is it?"
"We're not just going to stay for the weekend, but we decided to stay until the baby is born. What do you think sweet heart?"
Jay's eyes widened, feeling uneasy. He didn't mind Ava's mother, she is an easy-going person. It just was the thought of having to be around Ava's father for the next two whole months instead of one weekened.
"I think it is a great idea, Mom..." Ava looks to Jay and sees the expression on his face.
She discreetly smacked his knee with her hand and gave him a disciplinary look.
"We set up the living room for you two, but I'm not sure if that will be fine for the time you're going to stay."
"Your mother and I made previous arrangements to stay with your sister. As soon as we landed, we called to tell her when we were coming to her house." Henry assures her.
Jay was relieved.
"We are also going to help you set things up for the baby. This way, everything will be ready early and you can take it easy, Jay. You can focus more on the baby." Diana says.
Ava's eyes lit up. "I think that is a great plan, Mom and Dad. We would love the help. Thank you. Jay, what do you think?"
"I think it is a good idea, too. Thank you, Diana, Henry." Jay drums his fingers on top of his belly.
"Are you two hungry? Would you like to get something to eat before I take you to Grace's?" Ava asks.
"Mmm..." Diana shrugs. "I think we'll eat later. Your father and I had sandwiches on the plane. Impressive how much more palatable airplaine food has gotten in the last two decades."
Ava turned the car into the direction of Grace's house. Because of her mother's natural trait of being prepared, Diana asks Jay:
"Have already you signed up for a lamaze class, Jay?" Diana asks him.
"Not yet. Evan is going to sign up for the same class that Izzy took when she was pregnant with Caelan. Both say the teachers there are very good and it's about sixty dollars for the class. So, tomorrow Ava and I are going to sign up." Jay answers.
"Good, good."
About twenty minutes later, they all arrived at Grace's house. Ava and Grace helped their parents settle in. Afterwards, Jay and Ava came home. Jay groaned softly as he carefully lied down on the couch. With effort, he places one pillow under his head and another under his legs to support them. He lets out a deep breath and relaxes his eyes. Jay was close to feeling completely comfortable, but he felt that his legs needed to be propped up more. As soon as he thought it, Ava lifted his legs so that she could sit with him. Then she placed her husband's legs onto her lap.
"Aaah...perfect." Jay smiles with his eyes closed.
"So, my parents are staying with us for two months. It's nice that they'll be able to be there when their grandchild is born."
Jay rotates his achy feet counter-clockwise. "Yeah. Two whole months..." he mumbled.
"Jayden Isaac Evers, you're acting like a child. This type of relationship you have with my dad is not acceptable. Maybe this is a good thing they are staying here longer. This will give the both of you the time to bond and have a more friendly relationship. Especially when they come around to visit the baby. So, promise me that the two of you will become friends before this baby is born."
Jay obliviously nodded. "Yeah, uh-huh, sure."
But Ava was determined to make him promise. She picks up Jay's left foot, pretending to gently massage it. Then she applied extra pressure to his sore foot with her thumb. Jay was startled.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! What are you doing, you evil woman!?" He demanded as he sat up.
Ava had a firm grip on Jay's ankle. "Jay, promise me that you'll do this." she calmy says.
Jay couldn't break free. He figured it was best to just do what Ava asked. "Okay, I promise."
"Thank you." Ava smiles.
"You're welcome. Now, um, can you let go of my foot? I'm pretty sure it is illegal to torture a pregnant guy against his will."
Ava laughs and lets go. "You may be right on that point..."
There was some room between Jay and the back of the couch. Ava carefully laid herself next to her pregnant husband.
"But, is it also illegal to kiss a pregnant man against his will?" Ava charmingly laughs as she playfully rubs her nose against Jay's cheek.
Jay chuckles and pretends to think about it. "I don't know. I will have to check the rule book again."
Jay and Ava make soft kisses between each other. "I love you." Jay says to Ava.
"I love you too." Ava kisses Jay's cheek then lays her head on his chest. She then softly hums the song, "Cups."
Jay lifts up his head and feels the baby. "Ava..." he whispers.
She stops humming. "What?"
"Parker is reacting to your humming. He's kicking me. Here, give me your hand." Jay places Ava's hand on his belly after pulling up his shirt. "Okay, keep humming."
Ava continues the next verse. Almost every note she paused at, she could feel Parker kick inside. Both Jay and Ava smiled with joy. When Ava finished humming the song, Jay winced from Parker's last kick. It was strong.
"Oh, boy! That was a good one." Jay pats his belly. "He likes the song."
"Jay?"
"Yeah?"
"What do you think about taking the Lamaze class with Evan?"
Jay puts his shirt back down. "It would be fun..."
"Yes. It may be better doing the class with a friend. Want to sign up now?"
"Yeah."
"Okay." Ava get's up from the couch and goes to look for her cell phone. "I'll pack us a lunch to take to the class. And then I'll make sure we have some notebooks and pens."
Ava goes to the kitchen and calls the number to the Lamaze class. She found out how much the class is, what time the class starts, and what they needed to bring. After being on the phone for ten minutes, Ava hangs up and walks back into the living room.
"It's all set up. Class is from nine-thirty to eleven-thirty. I was thinking of making sandwiches for lunch. Do you want anything specific in your...?"
Ava notices Jay sound asleep on the couch, snoring as loud as a snorting pig. Ava briefly goes into the bedroom to get a blanket for Jay. She then came back with a soft, blue blanket and covers him with it. Ava lovingly stroked Jay's head and gently kissed him on the forehead. She knelt down onto the floor next to the couch and carefully lifted the blanket off Jay's belly. Then she moved his shirt out of the way, uncovering the stretched out baby bump. She feels the baby roll around with both her hands.
"Hi, Parker." Ava says to the baby. "One day, you will appreciate how wonderful your daddy is. I think he is a beautiful person for deciding to keep you."
Ava kisses the top of Jay's belly and puts his shirt back down. Then she covers Jay with the blanket again.
"Sleep well, Jay." Ava whispers.
