Our old Obs/Gyn professor used to say "यमराज से लडो!" I always found that funny, I still do but I realise the depth of those words now. Working as a junior incompetent, struggling doctor at a private hospital in a small town; I realise the meaning everyday. We fight-oh I contribute so little-but yes we fight death. Even when we know it's pointless, we fight it. We repeat the investigations, try out new treatments hoping that somehow the person lying almost lifeless in the hospital bed will improve. Oh we know how little chance of survival they have, but that doesn't really stop us from trying, from fighting. Life is precious. You know this especially if you've lost a loved one to death. So you fight till the end..not because of the oath you took, not because the lowered death rates have an impact on your salary . You fight because it's just what you do. You give the 100 chest compressions, push another ampoule of adrenaline and you try and try till there really is no point anymore. But then again, when you took that patient into the ICU and looked at the reports you already knew there would be no point..so why? The only thing I can come up with is- because that's just what you do! You fight Yamraj even when you know he's gonna win in the end. Because life is precious and because you know the pain of losing a loved one. Because you know that even though seeing someone you love dying is painful..them being dead is a thousand times more painful..I don't have a profound understanding of all things yet this thing amazes me. How humans do whatever they can to avoid an outcome even though they know all efforts will be futile. I'm amazed we don't give up even when the next case comes in with worse prognosis, we just press restart and repeat. Will God find this quality in human beings beautiful...I wonder..

Being a one time EMT and a bereaved Parent you rang a lot of bells for me🦋Helping to fight death-disease- depression- the entire agenda of life’s Challenges is a human commitment Not for recognition or personal gain but because if’s a spiritual or moral essence of the human soul The result- as you beautifully expressed it- is not always positive But we sleep better knowing we tried our damnedest because it was the right thing to do🦋Outstanding presentation 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
