I wrote a poem before this one about letting you go
Like a butterfly
But you weren't the one being set free
I was

But now
I'm finding myself
Trying to catch you again
My heart is the jar
You are the firefly

What am I doing?

This isn't me
I don't take back what I let go
I don't take back what caused me pain
But the thing is you didn't just give me pain
You gave me happiness

Should the one mistake you made
Take away all the happy times we created together

No one knows our relationship the way we do
So why am I letting them have an opinion about it?

I have to follow my heart
My head is telling me to let you go
But my heart just isn't ready yet

Everywhere I go
There's a reminder of you
On my way home from work
There's the park that we spend our time at almost everyday

Whenever I'm listening to my Spotify
There's the song "Ride For Me" that you had me sing to you that one day
The irony about that is
The song is about loyalty
And it was your disloyalty that tore us apart

But anyways
There were the places where we had our first and second date
Right across the street from each other

Then for the past two days
I saw two people that were rolling skating
And all of sudden
I would have a flashback to our third date when we went rollerskating
And every time I would fall
You were there to pick me up or catch me

That was the moment that I knew
You would be the one to always protect me
But why couldn't you protect my heart?

Why do I still want you?
Simple
I love you
And you don't give up on love
