Strange circles

I’m falling asleep

Double domed cave

Ulysses was here

Bats cry

A cloud of black

Rare species

Breaks out from the past

Disturbed in the dark

Shrieks and wing flaps

Echoes fill the enormous gap

In the heart of the mountain

Ulysses, come back!

Guide me to Circe

With your swine pack

The sea penetrates

The rock split in half

By Zeus’s own lightning

A mythical strike

Seek out the path

Shine a trembling light

Crystals and fossils

And there

In the dark

Strange circles remain

From a long lost past

A path leading up

Toward the light

Ulysses was here

Homer was right

I must admit I was inspired by the actual discovery of Ulysses’ cave - thank you for your feedback!
