Chapter One

"Papa, where are you?!" Lucy called for her father.
They were playing a game of hide and seek, and she was seeking.
"Papa do the call so I can find you!"
"Twootwoo!" Her father called.
She followed the sound until she could see a lump in Mama's nicely folded washing pile.
She ran over to it.
"I FOUND YOU!!" She yelled.
"Oh no!" Papa said.
And they both fell on the floor laughing.
"Good job Lucy." He said.
"BANG!" Came a sound from outside.
Lucy jumped up and sat on her father's knee.
Over the last few weeks there had been a war and lots of countries were involved.
"Papa, I'm scared." Lucy mumbled.
"It's okay baby." He said.
"BANG BANG." Came a noise at the door.
Papa slowly got up and opened the door.
"Hello sir." Said the mail man. "I have a letter for you." He said, and handed Papa a letter.
Then he left.
Papa closed the door and opened the letter and started reading it aloud.
"Dear Men of America." He said.
 "I the president of America am calling all of you to come into war for your country.
You have no choice. So pack your bags and wake up nice and early in time to hop in the truck that will be picking you up tomorrow morning.
Signed President Franklin Delano Roosevelt."
As soon as he finished reading the letter, his head dropped and the smile left his face.
"Well, I guess I better get packing then."
He said sadly.
And left the room.
