I could tell you how it ends but I suppose I should start at the begining, you see I wasn't always this way at one point in my existence I was happy, alone and half wild but happy, back then there was only me and Alise for company, what happened since turned my life around and I never looked back because looking back meant remembering and one thing I didn't need was reminder of the suffering I'd been through...but I'm getting too far ahead of myself here so let me tell you about my wretched past and how it ended up with me in this predicament and in this damn dark and freezing cell where rats scuttle across my feet in hope of a tidbit or two but alas I'm just as starved as they are.....

1850

My first memory was when I was five small for my age with my hand tucked into my nanny's larger one scuttling across the park before the rain hit harder my small legs running too keep up as she tutted and dragged me along my eyes filling with tears as her grip yanked at my arm painfully, I bit hard on my lip tasting blood mother said never to cry that big girls want for crying because noone respected a girl with a swollen face, nanny looked down and frowned noticing my pained expression and bloody lip she tutted again and released my arm only to withdraw her handkerchief and wipe at my mouth furiously

"Now Daisy my girl stop 'em tears now, ye hear? 'an I'll no tell ye again"

I nodded my head as she resumed her position and hurried me along at the same pace, I closed my eyes tight at the pain but eventually she let go and pushed me none to gentle through the door sweeping of my coat and handing it to a waiting maid along with my bonnet and mittens then quickly she sat me down and whipped off my boots the ones I was only to wear going out, she took my small hand again and led me too the front parlor when my mother always sat with her tea reading a novel, she bent down and wiped my dress down looking me in my eyes I bit my lip again but she shook her head

"Ney lass that'll no do, yer mammy's waiting in there fur ye and yer biting yer lip"

I stopped and smiled shyly at her

"Noo then remember yer manners, or we'll both git it"

I nodded my head at her Scottish drawl and she knocked on the door waiting until my mother said enter to gently open it and quietly but firmly push me in, shutting the door behind her I looked around at the click it was the first time she had left me alone with mother.

She looked up and placed her book on the small table her eyes narrowed as she took me in from my blond curls to my white socks she frowned noticing something nanny hadn't and indicated I should mover towards her, I looked down and walked nearer standing in front of her she grabbed the hem of my dress and frowned then sighing she sat up straighter looking at me as she rang the small bell next too her, nanny entered and curtsying came closer

"She has dirty socks on" mother said straight to the point "I though I had explained this before she must come to me spotless no dirt, no marks or fluff on her person whatsoever but it seems you have yet again ignored me"

"Am sorry ma'am we hud a wee walk, and well we got caught near enough in the downpour ootside and she only hus wee legs..."

My mother waved her hand and looked down at me "enough excuses next time I see her I want her spotless do I make myself clear?"

"Aye ma'am"

"Good you may go and leave me alone with my daughter"

She curtseyed again and left my mother frowned and narrowed her eyes "you remind me of you father's mother same emerald eyes and hair"

My mother was beautiful kind of earth real with her long silver hair scooped up into an elegant knot and her blue eyes as blue as sapphires her full lips and heart shaped face complemented by her figure, my father's family on the other hand where golden with eyes the colour or emeralds only my aunt Sarah didn't have the luxury of the genes requiring my grandfather's brown hair and nut eyes, I sighed inward knowing what was coming

"I don't expect you to be a looker in any case too much of the Bordeu genes in you and not a shred of the Sanderson genes, my own to be exact...you will most likely run to fat as you get older but there's no helping that..."

She broke off to pinch my legs "no muscle at all how do you even walk....anyway I did not bring you hear to admonish you...I wanted you here to inspect you as is custom which I must follow"

I looked at the book she was reading intrigued by the artwork of patterns on the leather

"My my my no manners either I see...do you have respect?"

I looked up sharply at her

"No I suppose not"

Mercifully the door opened stopping my mother from saying anything else and my father entered holding his cigar in one hand to his mouth the other in his pocket he saw me and smiled his eyes crinkling at the corners as her put his cigar out and opened his arms seeing my responding grin, I giggled and ran into his arms and her hugged me close he smelled like cigars and peppermint his favourite sweet mother frowned watching us and picked her book back up

"We are not running a zoo John"

He smiled at her "zoo you say"

She frowned and placed her book back down "I am or was trying to teach her how to be a lady, but we'll you have other ideas"

"Elizabetta my love, the girl is only a child she has years yet until she reaches an age to be called a young lady" he looked at me and kissed my head placing my down "besides I have a surprise for you"

I grinned "a surprise for me?"

"Yes my little flower it isn't everyday you turn five"

Mothers head snapped up at this "yes and as I pointed out she will not remain five forever"

He sighed and walked over too her kissing her head " I know my love, but as it is her birthday should we not at least make merry"

She lightened at his kiss "one day John but tomorrow things will have to change"

He smiled and winked at me "of course my love, when have I ever not done as you say?"

She smacked him on the leg a little too hard to be playful "I mean it John she must learn or we will have a ragamuffin as a daughter"

He swooped me up "a ragamuffin you say"

I giggled and mother sighed and turned back to her book.

After that things changed and kept getting worse and worse but not before I was ten when I turned ten everything went down hill and I never go to climb back out instead I ended up here in this predicament but yet again I'm getting ahead of myself as nanny always said 'there's nae flame withoot fire'

And me well I'm the fire and soon enough you'll find out the flame
