Wonderful sights greet closed eyes,
Soul wanders in Beauty's tracks;
Dizzy brain succumbs to spell
Till worldly sounds in ears crack.
Eyelids open, the world returns,
Vanishes the tapestry bright;
Things seem dull, the soul hankers
For one more resplendent sight.
Immaterial this world calls them,
They mislead and puzzle the wise;
To allure men like mermaids
From cavernous depth they rise.
Through centuries many have ridden
On their tender and rosy wings;
With silken touch they often shaped
Destiny of the greatest kings.
