Pinpricks

Like pinpricks in the tapestry of night,
Brilliant stars burning bright.
Seemingly small but only by distance,
Billions of worlds, possibly infinite.
I wish one day to reach the stars,
My life will be over before we get that far.
Perhaps my children will get the chance,
Or their children's children will do the dance.
Somewhere in my lineage, long after me,
Mankind will leave this world, set out to be free.
I hope they look back, find that tiny point of light,
And think of pinpricks in the tapestry of night.
