Final Retreat By Tegan Alice Stretton Read Count : 97

She cries at night.

I guess you never knew

she slices her skin,

but why would she tell you?

She hides it inside,

a mask she always wears.

You will never see her cry

though her heart has many tears.

She bleeds within,

she cries out in pain,

she forces a fake smile ,

and acts as she has been trained.

No one sees her scars

or the pain she keeps hidden.

Her only escape is her dear friend "razor"

and her dreams to give in.

She'll run from here,

far, far away.

She runs from her fear

and her self-hatred.

She cannot escape this.

She knows this to be true,

so she slices her wrists

and tells herself, "I hate you!"

She leaves without a trace.

She begs to die.

she succumbs to death's cold embrace.

She feels she has won,

has finished the race.

She has no more scars.

She lives in her old dreams.

She has a place reserved amongst the stars.

This is her final retreat
