Can’t We Just Be Friends? 5/28/19 Read Count : 130

Don’t sell friendship short
The way that I’ve been taught
A real one can last forever
You don’t have to be cool or clever

It takes time for it to grow
And experience so you’ll know
If it’s the real thing
Or an unrealistic fling

For the parties it has to be mutual
A commitment that has to be dutiful
Then you’ve found something great
Will it work if the other’s an ex-mate

Some remain emotionally attached
Though the original one did not last
And there’s much evidence that reveals
That many still make those appeals

I know that it works for some
But for most the issue is done
There are usually bad complications
Which make it a no win-situation

You can’t blame a person for trying
But it ends up with many just crying
It’s hard to  cut loose the connection When so much was based on affection

As in all issues there are choices
Motivated by emotional voices
So after you tried and it finally ends
The consolation is you’ve still got
great friends
