Constant war, constant strife,

they constantly dominate his life.

Trigger pulled, his mind was lulled,

he would never see paradise.

The life he had, the choices made,

he feared it just paved the way.

Straight to Hell, the day he fell,

he asked forgiveness for his sins that day.

But this was not a day to die, he didn't meet his end.

Thanks to some caring souls, he lived to fight again.

Years went by, each night he cried,

remembering the ones he lost.

As he paced, he saw each face,

young and brave, now gone.

He swore an oath, he didn't boast,

their memories would live on.

Their names are immortalized upon a wall of stone.  They gave their lives, a sacrifice, a debt that we all owe.

A thousand monuments across this land, memorials to the fallen.  Everyday I give thanks, and I feel so very solemn.
