Walking on the beach 
Saw a bottle within reach
Inside was a note 
I wondered what they wrote 

The paper old and frayed 
The writing clearly displayed 
Could not believe my eyes
When I read the words inside 

“If you’re with a friend 
And what he says to you offends
You can explain your feelings 
Without wailing or reeling

For the same price 
Don’t be nasty- be nice
           Australia 1924 “
