I closed my eyes...

When I opened them I was met with the sight of being on a boat afloat on a river and the only light I could see was that of the lantern at the front. I looked down and saw I was sitting. The area pitch black that even the water looked as if it were made of oil. Glancing around I saw that there was no one else around but the person rowing the boat and I. The person shrouded I could not tell if it was man or woman. I slowly began to realize what happened and where I was. I asked only one question and nothing more. "Where is it that I am going"? Listening closely I heard nothing. Not the sounds of waterfalls or those of water running to shore. Suddenly I heard the subtle sound of what could be a voice coming from the the person rowing. "That depends. I am merely the one who carries you. The one who will judge you is none other than you and no one else. Should you realize that you had a good life you shall relive your happiest moments. Should you realize you did not live a good life or lived in such a way you were expecting to be delivered to such a thing as a 'Promised Land' then you are sadly mistaken". The person stopped rowing and sat before me. "I have crossed these waters for many a millennia and all I can say is that there is no 'Heaven' or 'Hell'. All there is are memories. I am but nothing more than an end and I pity those who think otherwise". They then waved their hand to the side and a path opened up to the side of the boat. I nodded and as I exited the boat I thought back to myself. "Yes I had a very crappy life but the moments of sweet ignorance were way much sweeter and the moments of defying God, Devil, and even man, the sweetest" I had said to myself. "I need no God nor Devil and not living by their ways made my life a joy" I shouted and then...

I closed my eyes...

I was met by the very memories I spoke of. The exact memories of my sweet ignorance and defiance and reliving those moments were better than what any HEAVEN could offer.
