When we were young‘‘Twas lots of funWe played till darkAt the neighborhood parkThen- a little olderWe got a little bolderWe’d flirt with the girlsCute pigtails and curlsSchool became roughSome teachers were toughWork became hardWe could play in the yardWe then started datingA cause for celebratingWhich at times was confusingNot like our illusionThen it got seriousMade us deliriousTo parties and promsWith suits and with gownsCollege our next stationAnd dealing with separationReuniting through marriageAnd our first baby’s carriageTwo years in the armyUncle Sam couldn’t do without meAfter my discharge began teachingWorked with my students instead ofjust preachingFirst daughter arrived shortly thereafterFilled out life with first son’s laughterTwo years later 2nd daughter arrivedIt was a great time for happiness thrivedRaised a family by working togetherTrials and tribulations we would whetherThey grew and maturedWhich was our greatest pleasureOur son then married happy with prideThen came his daughter our first grandchildThen tragedy struck a blow to our heartOur good life was suddenly torn apartMarc was killed by a drunken driverThe person driving was a survivorWe struggled in pain with brutal griefFound a group where could work toward reliefWe met every week with other grievingparentsIt took years before help was apparentShorty after and two years apartBoth girls were married their lives a newstartTheir husbands great guys a pleasure to meetOur life improved but still bittersweetOur girls gave grandchildren two apieceIt’s helped life’s quality greatly increaseWe now live a life with mixed emotionFull of love -humor-family devotionWe all still have issues as all people doBut writing and reading has sparkedme anewAll in all I’m lucky to be where I amWith some regrets but still a happy man
