When we were young
‘‘Twas lots of fun
We played till dark
At the neighborhood park

Then- a little older
We got a little bolder
We’d flirt with the girls
Cute pigtails and curls

School became rough
Some teachers were tough
Work became hard
We could play in the yard

We then started dating
A cause for celebrating
Which at times was confusing
Not like our illusion

Then it got serious
Made us delirious
To parties and proms
With suits and with gowns

College our next station
And dealing with separation
Reuniting through marriage
And our first baby’s carriage

Two years in the army
Uncle Sam couldn’t do without me
After my discharge began teaching
Worked with my students  instead of
just preaching

First daughter arrived shortly thereafter
Filled out  life with first son’s laughter
Two years later 2nd daughter arrived
It was a great time for happiness thrived

Raised a family by working together
Trials and tribulations we would whether
They grew and matured
Which was our greatest pleasure

Our son then married happy with pride
Then came his daughter our first grandchild

Then tragedy struck a blow to our heart
Our good life was suddenly torn apart
Marc was killed by a drunken driver
The person driving was a survivor

We struggled in pain with brutal grief
Found a group where could work toward relief
We met every week with other grieving
parents
It took years before help was apparent

Shorty after and two years apart
Both girls were married their lives a new
 start
Their husbands great guys a pleasure to meet
Our life improved but still bittersweet

Our girls gave grandchildren two apiece
It’s helped life’s quality greatly increase
We now live a life with mixed emotion
Full of love -humor-family devotion

We all still have issues as all people do
But writing and reading has sparked
me anew
All in all I’m lucky to be where I am
With some regrets but still a happy man
