When you felt the grip of a loved one's hand fade away

Did you know that it was for the last time?

When you walked away from what you knew best

Did you realise it was for a crime?

Was it because your pride tormented you?

Or was it to keep your name?

Did it feel like a perfect end

To this dark and sinister game?

For if you knew that fate plays a slim part

Would you have left you turf?

If only you could see the future that is now the past

What do you think it would be worth?

The eyes of your nation looked at you and many more men

Until your job was done

Nobody cared about who you were

Even though you were someone's son

There was no lucky charm at war

Just your faith as you stood alone

They promised you all homes fit for heroes

But they gave us heroes fit for homes

All the effort you made was for a sadistic sum

Nulla felix leporem ad bellum
