Religious Bias Read Count : 92

I'm just talking from personal experience. This is not meant to offend anyone, unless you are offended by self ignorance. As well as an unwillingness to change one's mind for even a second. I only ask that if you don't want to read all of it, read the end.

In this week alone i feel in my heart of hearts that I finally understand something that I've been wondering about for a while. Why does religion exist? My original answer was that people just wanted hope. Hope for things to get better, stability, or a family to call their own. But then that touchy feely viewpoint suddenly went away.

I was inspired briefly to look up a few different religions. Starting with Catholic, and working my way down. I've also been talking with a friend in this and he seems to get it. Then last night I was lead to a Satanist website about their beliefs and what they stand for. I shared it with a group of friends who laughed at me and thought I was kidding, but when they found out I wasn't they told me to stop. See, this is where my view changes. They didn't even know half the views their own religion were meant to have, and automatically rejected anything with Satan in its name even if it had nothing to do with half the stereotypes we believe.

Religion at this point is like routing for a foot ball team, not what it actually means. Because the taboo in Christion branched religion, is to reject anything that isn't you. Even though the ideals on their own could line up, the hate between the two are too strong.

People hate racism but will do the same to a religion. Blind hate. People hate bias in media. But they don't need the media for it to exist. Before you hate know what you're hating because you might end up killing a good thing.

  • Very well put. You just summed up my biggest issue with religion, the superiority complex most people of religion have. It has become so accepted for them to claim "my religion is better", that they truly believe anyone who doesn't follow their religion is inferior. No thanks, I'll pass. I'll just practice being a good person.
